This is tragic news.  I remember when the Challenger was lost seventeen years ago like it was yesterday.  The astronauts are so brave to risk their lives for the sake of science.  My thoughts are with their families.[cryb]

My heart is aching just thinking about it.  Could not believe another tragedy.  I had been at an early basketball game, was shocked when I came home and turned on the TV.

Those who choose to participate in the space shuttle program are exceptionally brave, far-seeing individuals.  They know the risks, yet they take them willingly, with an eye toward the future of our world.

God bless those who perished.  Comfort their families and friends during this difficult time.  Help all of us cope and continue on.

Love, Robin

As Robin so aptly stated, we honor those who choose to fly.  They know the risks and still, they make the choice.

This is not just an American tragedy but touches many of us on a deeper level.  Many of you have read fanfiction by Emeldi on some of the lists.  She is a NASA missions specialist.  One of the Columbia astronauts was a dear friend and the best man at her wedding.  When I learned this, it suddenly became very personal.  The circumstances of Feb.1 had impacted the life of someone I personally care about.

This is so heartbreaking.  These young people in the prime of their lives, suddenly snuffed out so close to the end of their mission.  Words somehow seem unable to express the sorrow that we feel now.  How their families must be suffering.

Sue, a good friend of mine, found out after 9-11 that the best man at her wedding had been on one of the planes that hit the WTC.
