the other day i posted and then realized i mispelled something.i went to modify the post but it said there was an "error" and that the time aloted to modify the post had expired.it seemed like only a few seconds.
That's sometimes the funny thing about time - it can often pass much quicker than we think it does.
The forum's error log shows that the first time you tried to edit your September 5th at 08:43:02pm ET / 05:43:02pm PT post in "barnabas and elizabeth" on the Current Talk board, 2 minutes and 8 seconds had passed (while the last time you tried, 3 minutes and 29 seconds had passed):

And you tried to edit your September 1st at 07:24:57pm ET / 04:24:57pm PT post (the starting post in the same topic) 4 days, 1 hour, 21 minutes and 53 seconds later:

But in that case I'm sure you were simply trying to see if you could edit one of your older posts just to see if there was some sort of problem with the other one (which is exactly something I would have tried.
)
Your most recent attempt to edit was that same September 5th at 08:43:02pm ET / 05:43:02pm PT post:

how long is the time allowed?
The system initially allows a full 2 minutes for members to catch any possible errors and to edit their posts accordingly (which means that first time you had just missed the cut-off time for editing by only 8 seconds
) or to simply add an additional thought. But technically it's actually possible to continue to edit their posts for a much longer time so long as they attempt any future edits within the allotted amount of time.
Several posts have either referenced older posts on this subject or provided a full explanation. Please check out the links contained in this most recent post:
Since when is there a time limit on modifying one's own posts?
