Current Talk '02 II / Somewhat On Topic
« on: November 07, 2002, 03:25:51 PM »
The November issue of Victoria Magazine has a photo spread shot in and on the grounds of the Lockwood-Matthews Mansion in Norwalk.  Lockwood-Matthews was used in filming "House of Dark Shadows".

For anyone who has been there, it is easily recognizable.  My last time was a few years ago, and the restoration progression since then is amazing.

Here in New England we all have a loon relative locked away in the tower, if only figuratively.

For the record, in my family, I'm it.

Amanda Harris, mewling, hoary eyed slut.  She is opportunistic, she has stupid hair, she thought that ugly broach was gorgeous, she whines, she tries to sashay but just ends up looking like a 50 cent whore at the end of a 10 buck evening.

And she sucks.

There is an amazing greenish colored chair that shows up at the Old House more prominently, at a later date.  I don't know what it is called, but the darned thing has a back that envelops the user most completely!  It almost looks like a dome!  Reminds me of the old "stereo chair" of the 1960's, with a classier, victorian feel.

petofi

Its a Sleepy Hollow Chair.

Would it surprise you any to know that I have read a book about this case?  No mention of DS in that either.

But I am familiar with it....who'd a thunk, huh?

Is it just me, or does Roger Davis look like Christopher Walken?

Have you seen Lee Majors recently?  I swear he and RD have the same plastic surgeon, and chose the same features from the flip a face book.

Bob, great pics, as always.  It was fun, wasn't it?

It's something how some songs can only be sung by a certain artist. Linda also sings "Crazy" but it just doesn't compare to the way Patsy sings it and yet the song "Long Long Time" can only be sung by Linda Ronstadt because no one else can sing it the way she does.

"Crazy" should have been raised to the rafters the day Patsy kissed a mountain.

"Long Long Time" is one of my all time favorites, too.  Think I am going to have to pop it in and listen now.

Well, maybe she doesn't have the right shoes for the trip.  Ever think of THAT??  Jeez.

She has the right shoes for everything :).

Thing is, I could probably pull it off, but it is a lot of travel time for a short turnover, and with the past months heavy work schedule, coming at the end of a long, exhausting year.....and leading in to the holiday season, which means dinner functions that will be keeping me at work longer, and dealing with vendors and logistics from home.....

I'd like to, and if I didn't all ready have flights, hotels, plans with friends for a long weekend a few weeks before that I would toss reason aside and just do it...but the timing is just  too off.

I know everyone will have a good time, though.  For those who have not seen David on stage before....wow.

When the stuff and nonsense is done, and we get back to the grit, there will be a scene that references Beth having been a servant...when the kids go off to an old room in the servant's quarters, and Amy, as Beth, says she remembers it, is is "her" room

So with Maggie wearing WHITE shoes and Amy sporting them LIME green one, Joe was more then happy to go off to meet my fate just so I wouldn't have to take this ugly shoes and the wrong shoes.

Some people would have been better off being born without feet.

"I don't understand".......what is the history behind this "ban" on white after Labor Day rule?

?!?

White before Memorial Day, or after Labor Day is verboten.  No white shoes, white bag, white dress, skirt or pants.  White blouse or sweater with dark skirt or pants is okay, though.  This came from on high, via my Irish grandmother.

Ladies wore gloves and a hat to church, gents always removed thier hats before entering any building.  A lady never bared her arms in church.  A lady always wore stockings.

One always has proper funeral attire cleaned and pressed in the closet, ready for service should the occassion arise.

One never wore diamonds, aside from their wedding jewelry, before the cocktail hour.  One never partook before the cocktail hour.  Here the logic gets a little fuzzy, becauase apparently if you got blind drunk on a daily basis, but waited til the appropriate time, you didn't have a problem there.

After 30 a lady never wears pants or has hair longer than shoulder length.  This is going to prove problematic someday...I get to the afterlife, if she is hanging with her friends, she is going to pretend she doesn't know me.

Sheenasma,

Are you, by any chance, related to Imelda Marcos?

I personally resort to my school marm lace up shoes for all dressy occassions here in Hooterville, and that's because I am a school marm.

FMPs for the theatre and all dressy occasions in dazzling urban locations, though mine are not pumps per se. I go for the strappy high-heeled hooker look.

Beyond that, I believe that sueded pigskin work boots complement any and all outfits. When accompanied by a NASCAR cap, they also scare the hell out of any students who come to my office hours. ;)

LOL...no, but there is this woman I know, lives in LA, pretty sure she could add to all I had to say.

And never undersestimate the high heeled strappy hooker look, because see, I know this other woman, and once, while wearing them in Hartford, Connecticut, couple of business men asked her and some chick in crocheted mules if they were busy for the evening.

That is a true story, but I am going to protect the innocent here.

Thanks for the shoe primer. You sure know your stuff. I knew I was ignorant but just not the depths that I am about such things.

I've been a pall bearer twice and was asked to wear flats, which I did. And, yes, I think one pair of them were tan in the off season.

I would have worn tan off season before I would have worn functional boots to a church or cemetary.

The bag would have matched, though.
