What a good idea :) What if AM played the of part Roxanne?

Wow, Julianka7, what an inspired idea :)  It would have made more sense for Barnabas to have feelings right away if she looked like someone he already had deep feelings for.

A downeast accent might work but it might be laughable if they all sounded like the pepperidge farm guy.  I  meet people here in Maine with an accent I think is called Quebecois(sp).  It comes from people who came from Canada to work in the mills and factories around the turn of the century.  The descendants speak with a slight accent.  My hairstylist said people her age(50) and younger have lost the ability to speak the style of french that was once spoken by their parents and grandparents.  Her husband went to New Orleans when he was in the service and found the Quebec french he spoke sounded odd to the locals.  He said they sounded odd to him but they were able to communicate in french.

ALSO....I'd vote for "Other" - DEAD GRANDMAMA in her coffin, smiling with her eyes open.  Oh my God.  THAT got me more than anything else in the history of DS.

I had voted for the werewolf but I'm with you, Connie.  Smiling dead grandmamama would give me a heart attack [a345]

We go to Vermont often.  I can't wait to go to that cemetery this summer.  Something way out of the ordinary to do.  My kids will love it. :o  Thanks for the info, arashi.

I'll never forget the terror he inspired in his appearance on Night Gallery.  The word "surprise" had a terrifying new meaning. :o   He was scary whether he played a vampire or an undertaker.

Do you remember a Brewsters when you were growing up in Maine?   So many of the downtown stores failed when they opened up the malls.

How about a humanoid looking slug.  You know, it leaves a trail, retracting eye stalks. Bleah. :P  We could throw salt at it.  What in the heck would the baby that Jeb and Caroline produced look like?  Whats the point of producing a race of repulsive looking beings?  Dateless Friday Nights. ::)

Yes, we have Wal-Marts in Maine.  The parking lots are packed all day long.  There is even a Sams Club in Portland.  Wal-mart is building a major distribution center in Lewiston.

I asked some old-timers if they ever heard of Brewsters here in Maine.  So far, no one I have spoke to has heard of Brewsters.  Pecks Dept store was around many years ago.  People in their fifties remember sitting on Santa's lap at Pecks.  I don't know when they went out of business.

PS.  BuzzH----I would stop getting your info from your boss. ;)

Thank you so much for the thoughtful review.  I am such a cheapskate that I went to Barnes and Noble and read it.  I was glad I did not pay for it.  However, thats my tastes and I would not discourage anyone from reading it.  Your review is the only review I have read about it.  I will probably buy Lara's next book only because a cast member wrote it and who knows it might be good.  I prefer to have books written by authors who understand the show and are also professionals.  I wonder why this book was rejected?

Thank you, petofi.  I had never seen any DS comics.  The square jaws on Julia and Quentin make them look like super-hero wannabees.  I think Quentin looks more like Morgan Collins from PT.  Were all the characters given strong chins?

Current Talk '06 I / Re: Barnabas' occupation?
« on: January 17, 2006, 01:51:35 AM »
Thanks Luciaphil.  I was hoping you would chime in.  I have read some Dickens novels and it seems even sons of the well to do can be mistreated.  I always thought that was an angle the writers might play with.  Joshua seemed to respect Jeremiah more than his own son.  He did not seem that close to Sarah either.  He told Miss. Winters in an annoyed voice that Sarah was in his library and she would only stay in the nursery if Miss Winter was with her(like spending five minutes with his daughter was torture).
When I read the fan fic about Barnabas as a shipwright, I did not know the meaning of the word.  The way the story was written it made it seem more like he was an engineer.  After I looked it up and saw the world carpenter, it made Barnabas seem more manly.

Current Talk '05 II / Re: The otherworldly climate of Collinsport, Maine
« on: January 16, 2006, 01:39:56 AM »
Summers can be very cool, too.  About a year ago last summer, I went to the Samoset(sp) Resort for a dinner party.  It was early afternoon and it was totally fogged in and freezing cold.  I thought this was my vision of Collinsport.  You could hear the fog horn in the distance.  The gulls would scream out but you could not see them.  It was very spooky.  My husband left me alone to park the car and the stillness was oppressive.  The cold, clammy weather was closing in on me that I ran to get inside.  I'd love to rent a cottage there and bring my DS dvds and the novels.  I would probably be too spooked to go outside. :o

I agree with victoriawinters.  I have a question about Barnabas'  inheritance.  I seem to recall Joshua and Jeremiah were partners.  Joshua could have chosen to leave his portion of the business to Jeremiah.  In parallel time, Bramwell was not part of the business.  Was Barnabas just an employee when we first see him in 1795?  Were the Collins family into shipping and shipbuilding?  I read a fan-fic once that said Barnabas was a shipwright(carpenter employed in the construction of ships).  I always thought he had a working knowledge of every aspect of the family business through apprenticeship.  I don't think he held any position of power since his father seemed very much in control of his son and any money his son would have access to.
Joshua treated him like an employee sending him to the shipyards in the pooring rain.  He threatened to leave him without money or the ablity to get a job when he married Angelique
