Current Talk '03 I / Re:Carolyn's Make-Up
« on: June 13, 2003, 02:50:30 PM »
I think Raineypark mentioned this in another post awhile back but for awhile Carolyn's eyebrows were too much sorta like a man's mustache.  I like them now because they are not so prominent.  Because Nancy is so fair, I think the make-up artist went to far to adjust for this.  She does look a little tired around the eyes but this fits her new character.

Have a very Happy Natal Anniversary! ;D

Love those zombies, they're so ugly and helpful. Wish I had a few to help me with my housework!

Oh Robin,  your house would be spotless but it would take you forever to rid your house of that funky, dead smell.  You had better let them work in your garden.  I'm sure they know alot about dirt and composting.

But, especially Bruno, thinking he can kill Jeb and then take over as the Leader!!  Even Nicholas has said that Jeb is the one indispensable.    He's the creature that grew from the box.  Bruno was so anxious to serve him when he arrived.  This isn't just some ordinary band of "bad guys" where someone might plot a mutiny and want to take over.  Jeb is their supernatural creature leader.  They all have blind obediance to him.  Not only is it unthinkable that Bruno could plan such an attack on  him, but clearly it would be impossible for him to take over.

I got the impression that followers were promised that they would become leviathans, too.  However when Barnabas was being lectured by Oberon, he indicated they were just using the humans.  Maybe, Bruno was lied to like everyone else.  Barnabas said to Oberon that people would not follow them if they were asked to do things that they could not do.  Barnabas was unable to murder Julia just because the Lung Brat told him to.   Elizabeth had trouble with those demands, too.  Bruno seemed to want the power and began to chaf at the demands of a petulant, childish leader.  Elizabeth was beginning to resent being ordered about by Jeb.  She told him this was still her house and he sent her to her room.  It just goes to show that there was a leadership vacuum because of Jeb's lack of charisma.
The story also mentions that during the ceremony Carolyn is supposed to change.  Jeb even believed it but I think that was also a lie.  I think it was supposed to be like Rosemary's Baby.  Rosemary did not quite recall that she was raped by the Devil.  I think that would have been Carolyn's experience, too.

Thanks for bringing this up, Maria_Merriweather! I've been having the same problem with not having new posts register, and I had wondered if I was losing it or imagining things.   ???

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Cheap insufferable pig day
« on: May 30, 2003, 03:50:47 PM »
WHERE did you get the image of the Piggy puppet?  It looks demonic enough to have appeared on the show!  And of course, Jebez' new look is a distinct improvement.

Guess you're not really all that overworked around here after all, if you have time to indulge in THIS sort of thing!   [smrtasb]

That stuffed pig is very creepy.  It looks sort of like an ancient gargoyle.  Well, it is a nice sunny day so I think I'll grill some cheap, insufferable pig in honor of  Cheap, Insufferable Pig Day.  Good job, MB

i'd say Petofi for a wig and Bruno for real!

jennifer

I don't care for Julia's present hairstyle, either.  As for Petofi and Bruno, I would add Barnabas' spikey doo.  I just can't see Barnabas using Dippity Doo every morning and without the benefit of a mirror.

on DS was actually a cause for celebration? ... Not much happiness there. ::)

That's not very different than any other soap.  I remember the Luke and Laura wedding was a big deal and she was getting married to her rapist.

No, no, no - in the GH PTB's view of things, that was never a rape - it was a seduction. ::) But regardless of who's view is the correct one, there's no disputing the fact that by the time they married, Luke and Laura were deeply in love with each other and neither was keeping a secret from the other. So, their marriage was a cause for celebration.

On DS, was there ever any couple (other than perhaps Vicki and Jeff) where at least one member was NOT keeping secrets from the other? And as hard as I find it to accept, at least Carolyn and Jeb were in love. But, my God, HE was keeping so many deep, dark secrets from her that it's hard to keep count of them all! [laugh]

What I meant to show by the Luke and Laura example was to show that all soap weddings have some weird, twisted angle.  I am not a soap watcher but every once in awhile I catch a glimpse or two.  For example,  the stage is set for a lavish wedding and the doctor  runs in to announce the couple are actually half-siblings, or the ex-husband shows up to announce they are still married, etc. etc.  The upshot is that all other soaps have lavish weddings regardless of the circumstances.  I just think DC was a short-sighted tightwad and blew a ratings and advertising bonanza.

The way Willie was going on about Roxanne(refined and genteel) he reminded me of Carl.  Carl described his low class gal with the same words.  It makes me wonder what Roxanne was really like.
It is too bad that she never shows up.  It would have been classic to have her come on to Barnabas.  I love it when he registers discomfort in inappropriate social situations.
Also agreed. But as Luciaphil rightly points out, what wedding on DS was actually a cause for celebration? Characters were generally forced into them, marrying for all the wrong reasons, and/or making the biggest mistakes of their lives. Not much happiness there. ::)

Gothick,
I love Vermont but I'm more of a Bed and Breakfast person myself.  If you get tired of camping the 1811 House in Manchester is fantastic.  When I first stayed there in the early 80's, I thought it was what the Old House should look like on the inside.  The rooms are all filled with old portraits and antiques.  The only bad time I ever had there was when I was pregnant and the bed was a beautiful four post with a big fluffy mattress.  Unfortunately with my bulky, ponderous shape, I sank like a stone and could not move.  It took my hubbie ten minutes to pull me out of the hole I made.  However, the room was still beautiful.  They even have claw-foot tubs and fireplaces in some of the rooms.  You won't get that camping!
Just so I don't get in trouble for getting OT, I am going to see how this spoiler thang works
« on: May 24, 2003, 11:42:53 PM »

As much as I dislike Jeb, I do think it was a clever story point to keep him acting like a spoiled and petulant child even into adulthood. It's an interesting commentary on how rapidly he, um, "grew up."

He grew up so fast we're lucky he is even potty trained.  He still acts like that creepy little kid Alexander.
MB, I am happy to see you posting.  I guess this means you are up to speed and whipping this board into shape so you can relax and do a little posting :-*

Gerard played a villian but along with that he also played the part of a "ladies man" with quite a few love interests such as Daphne, Edith and Samantha.  And I just can't picture Petofi taking his place and playing the same part.  Petofi played a great villian but he was no ladies man.
Cassandra

I read that Henry Kissinger was quite the ladies man.  I remember back in the 70's he was linked to many beautiful and rich women.  However,  I don't find a fat, bespectacled man with a thick accent attractive but if Kissinger could pull it off so could Petofi.
