B and J were a romantic duo in the same way as many soap couples.  Who could forget Dr. Hardy and faithful Nurse Jesse?  They were never an official couple either but you could never think of one without the other.  Cue organ music. (Does anybody remember the organ music cues of General Hospital and could you just imagine what DS would have sounded like with such hokey music cues).

P.S. Heather, I love the dancing banana you used in your post.  [santa_grin]

They were the Collins family for pete's sake.....why didn't they move into the nearest Four Star Hotel

I recall an episode when Roger asked Elizabeth where Barnabas was staying. Roger described all of the accomodations nearby as "flop houses".  I bet the nearest hotel worthy of the Collins family would have been in Portland.  However,  it would probably been on par with a Howard Johnsons.  I have lived in Maine for 15 years and my town just built a nice hotel that I would not be embarrassed to recommend.

Luciaphil,
I am not very familiar with the early episodes but you make them sound  interesting and mysterious.  Roger seems very different from the later portrayal.  This Roger sounds alot more layered and disturbing.  Thanks for taking the time during this hectic holiday season to give us these delicious reviews.    Poor Gerard, I live in Maine and enjoy the beauty of the Hawaiian Spruce Tree with pinecones in the shape of pineapples or the Coconut Maple where coconut syrup is harvested.
Any locale used for coastal Maine should show pine trees in every outdoor shot.

When I moved to Maine 15 years ago, we bought a house from a blind, elderly lady.  The company she hired to mow the lawn was called "Phoenix Lawn Care".  We hired them our first winter here to do the snow removal in our driveway.  Can you just see Mrs. Johnson on a riding mower?  LOOK OUT! :o

I am going to add the Abenaki to Rainey's list.  About 2000 Abenakis live on two reserves in Quebec but at one time were allies to Maliseet and Penobscot tribes.  Many Abenaki still live in Maine.

But, everyone rebels against their positions and how people behaved.  In this one several refused to go to the church services, although it was required and obviously an important part of life back then.  They would do other things against the rules, etc.  The women didn't like not having a say in how things were run, etc.  It's not as though they would be stuck in this new life forever and felt a need to rebel.  They were playing a part for a few months.  One would think they would go along with all of those things as much as they could, to more get the feel of what it was really like.

I agree, Josette.  They seem to be treating the situation like an uncomfortable camping trip instead of trying to emulate the attitudes of the people of the past.  However, some of the people there would have been flogged for some of their behaviors.
This was filmed in Maine but the exact location was kept a secret so there would be no tourists interupting filming.
