Maybe she really was referring to a book? Who knows. Maybe Magda secretly had a copy of KLS' "The Bunny Years" stashed in the secret room (I know she didn't publish it until a century afterwards, but Magda has her connections
), and Evan noticed it and just happened to take it with him. So maybe Magda had the book on her mind when she went to Evan's house to retrieve the hand, but was too embarrassed about such a scandalous thing in the 1890s. (Or maybe not)
