The way to point people to other topics/posts is to first quote the post you want to point to, next copy the opening quote tag with all its code (which will look something like this:
[quote author=retzev link=topic=13872.msg123480#msg123480 date=1209785433]
post that into the post you'd like to make, and be sure to add a closing quote tag at the end of the opening quote tag and all its code, like this:
[quote author=retzev link=topic=13872.msg123480#msg123480 date=1209785433][/quote]
If you'd like, you can also add the title of the topic between the quote tags, like this:
[quote author=retzev link=topic=13872.msg123480#msg123480 date=1209785433]Pointing others to threads?[/quote]
Or you could quote some small portion of the original post, like this:
[quote author=retzev link=topic=13872.msg123480#msg123480 date=1209785433]No matter which page I'm viewing...[/quote]
But what's absolutely essential is including the opening quote tag with all its code and the closing quote tag in your new post.
I hope that helps.
