Yes, but everyone who's on the forum isn't necessarily listed there. [ghost]

Ok, MB. So when are you going to fix this board so that it'll list my multiple personalities when I -- oops, I mean WE -- log on to the forum? ;)

Wasn't the online button light always there or am I hallucinating again?? You're talking about the one that's right underneath our names & Avatars, right? Or is there another online button somewhere else?

Who's Online in the horizontal menu at the top and bottom of the pages is new.

WOW!!! Thanks Midnite & Patti!! Now I know what you mean. And you can also tell who is viewing what topic on the board as well. This is really great! :)
MB is really getting on the ball here!!![thumb]

Becoming 'invisible' works the same way it did before...you have to change it on your profile.
What I don't understand is the option that asks if you want to 'hide e-mail from public'.....since when is our e-mail open to the public?
And while I'm at it (issues of privacy being of particular interest to me)....why would members need to know what time other members logged on, or exactly what they are reading at any given moment? Unlike knowing who's online at any time, which is always interesting, this seems like useless information and I'm wondering why it's being shared.

Oh, aren't you aware that every day either Midnite, dom, or I upload all the IMs to a special Usenet newsgroup just so everyone in the world can read them? ;D
Just kidding, of course. That setting in your profile is to keep your e-mail address hidden from public view. ;)

Simply because we can. [smrtasy] However, anyone who would prefer that their movement about the forum be kept from the other members need only set the hidden feature in their profiles. Though, if one is merely going about the usual business of reading posts/IMs and responding to them, I can't see why they might be reluctant for others to know that. In fact, if someone happens to notice that a friend might be reading a topic that they particularly enjoyed/disliked/whatever, it could actually stimulate a discussion that might otherwise not take place...
And FYI, there's a setting in this mod that shows exactly which posts someone is reading in a topic. I didn't set it - but it was only because I didn't like the idea of bright red displays all over the place. [wink2]

Exactly...so why doesn't it SAY e-mail address? Imagine how horrified all those new members are going to be when you open membership and they see THAT?

But that means being hidden entirely, and I don't care to be completely invisible....I just doubt the usefulness of having my every move on the forum tracked as though I were a package at UPS. [angrb]

Well, the truth is that happens on every Web site you visit. Every site has an access_log (though some logs, say, on AOL, aren't necessarily made available to the person(s) who created the Web site, but are instead used by their online service) that tracks everything a visitor does there. (We've certainly been quite open with the fact that the forum has such a log. ;) Though the only time we ever examine it is if there's some sort of problem that we're trying to trace.) The only difference here is that info is being displayed in real time for anyone who might want to check it out.. :)
