Thanks for the reminder, MB!  My hopes aren't too high, but I'm game to watch, and as you say, there will probably be a clip or two   [snow_smiley]

Thanks for that news, MB; I saw a similar article from a different source today.  For what it's worth (and I've been following somewhat closely), I had never heard before that Johnny Depp was offered a part called "Johnny" in any of the Sin City movies, and am not sure I believe it.  According to Robert Rodriguez, he wanted Johnny to play the role of Jackie Boy in the first Sin City; this was back in 2004.  But Johnny ended up not having enough time in between filming The Libertine and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that year, so the role went to Benicio del Toro (who was great!).  In addition, ever since the first Sin City, but mostly for the upcoming Sin City 3 (if it ever happens!  They'd better go ahead and do 2 first!) Johnny has also been heavily rumored to play a character called Wallace.  But so much time has passed by now (geez, nearly a decade!) that I have no idea if Johnny is still interested at this point.  But I've never heard any rumors for him to play another character in Sin City 2.

Anyhow, this is great news for JGL.  I loved the first Sin City and think that he'd be a really great match for it.  Rodriguez's more recent projects (Spy Kids, Grindhouse, Shark Boy and Lava Girl) haven't always been that great, but at least he's someone who thinks outside the box!

(Incidentally, though sorry to get off topic for a sec- regarding the role that Johnny played in Rodriguez's Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Agent Sands, that part was originally offered to George Clooney!)

Hey, just getting back to town after being away for the holidays.  Great news about the Fangoria Top Ten!   [8_2_59]  Hoping it'll make some more lists, too!

Answering my own question, the Scream awards were held in October in 2011, but for some reason the ceremony was cancelled this year   [santa_huh]   I don't know if that means they are going to stop having them or not.

The other big horror awards are the Saturn Awards,  This year, the awards were held in July, and covered the period of films released from Feb. 2011 thru the end of Jan. 2012.  So DS will be eligible this coming year, but we'll have a while to wait before hearing about any nominations.

There may be other horror awards, too, or MTV or Teen Choice might have a "best villain" category and such.

There are still only 5 nominees each for lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, and supporting actress.  There can be up to 10 films nominated, but they changed the rules again last year and there can be less than 10 films if they want to nominate less (I think there were 9 last year).

The only time I think DS or its actors might have had a shot would've been for the Golden Globes, which has separate categories for drama and comedy/musical (Plus they love Johnny and have nominated him more often than most if not all of the other awards organizations).  But those awards have already been announced, and DS got nada :(  Oh well!

Another thing to think about the Scream awards, or other awards that focus on horror/sci-fi.  It might have more chances for some of those.  I don't recall what time of year when those awards occur.

I hope it won't be on any worst lists!  But I don't think it will be.  I think most of the reviews that weren't good seemed to indicate disappointment, not living up to expectations, and/or being weary of Burton/Depp collaborations, as opposed to out-and-out hatred.  In other words, I don't think it was bad enough to really merit that kind of mention.  I've been looking at people's predictions for "Razzies" (basically awards for the worst of the year), and haven't seen DS anywhere.  In contrast, I wouldn't be surprised at seeing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (which I saw recently and was very disappointed in- much more so than DS, despite enjoying the book) or The Raven (which I thought was even worse- I gave it a rare 1 star in my Netflix rating).  I can't speak for John Carter since I didn't see it  [santa_smiley]

I've been following the recent critics awards and top ten lists, hoping that maybe DS would be mentioned in some of the smaller categories, such as effects or musical score, but I haven't seen it on any of those kinds of lists yet.  I saw somewhere that Danny Elfman has something like 6 eligible film scores this year (including DS), but he's never won an Oscar.  It doesn't seem like he's made most lists yet   [santa_sad]  However, Burton seems to be doing pretty well so far with Frankenweenie as one of the best animated features.  Unfortunately, I missed seeing that one in theaters, but I'm sure I'll rent the DVD.

I watched it too, and thought it was much better than I was expecting it to be.  I'm not 100% sold on it, but would be willing to watch it to see if it could find its footing.  But I guess they'd have to show more episodes for that to happen  [santa_grin]

Kinda off-off topic, but as a little tidbit, I saw a photo recently of Johnny Depp in Tonto attire posing with a kid that looked awfully familiar, named Mason Cook.  I checked IMDb and sure enough it's the same kid who played Eddie Munster on this pilot.  So he's going to be in The Lone Ranger, too.  Kinda creepy looking, which of course is a plus for this show  [santa_cheesy]

I got mine today too, though I hadn't gotten any e-mail that it had been shipped yet.  I'm glad things are back to normal after several shipping delays around the time of Hurricane Sandy.  I'm about to sit down and start looking through it now!   [snow_bigglass]

Hope you'll get yours on time, MB!

Dom, I think her offer is for any book purchase, though I suppose I was speaking specifically about the new Return To Collinwood book.  Charles_Ellis, point taken- I don't mean my post to be venomous- I actually think KLS is quite sweet.  So I'm sorry if I was a bit mean. But she *is* rather aggressive and persistent in her salesmanship, and I guess I confess it's fun to poke fun a bit   [hall2_cheesy]  As I said, perhaps some folks on my page will be interested after seeing her post, and that's a win-win situation.  But it's just funny that she found my site, despite it not really having any real connection to DS.

I was very amused yesterday when KLS decided to post about her holiday promo on my Facebook Johnny Depp Rocks page.  This is a page associated with my website that is devoted to Depp's musical pursuits, and really has NOTHING to do with Dark Shadows, other than the post-premiere gig he played with Alice Cooper.  I'm also not a FB friend of hers or anything like that, and while I'm on a few DS FB groups, I've only posted once or twice on any of them and am therefore just a lurker.  But she still managed to find me ;)

Well, it's all good- I enjoyed the book and she may find a few more customers through me and the Depp connection  [hall2_smiley]

I tried to reply to this last night, but seemed to come in in the middle of some board maintenance  [hall2_smiley]  Anyway, I did spot the cane in the episode, and I definitely think it was intentional, and very cool!

Like the others said, each season is self-contained, with the a good number of the actors from season 1 in totally different roles this season.  I love this aspect- I agree that it's very Dark Shadows-like (even *more* so, since a lot of the DS characters were relatives of characters in a different time period).  It gives the feeling of it being like a repertory company or something, kind of like, oh, I don't know... Tim Burton with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter  [hall2_grin]

At first, I was thinking that this season is a little too busy and packed with too many crazy stories and plot points that seem unrelated.  However, as the season is developing, I am adjusting to the crazy atmosphere, and I'm reminded that this was similar to the style last season, as well- I remember thinking the show was pretty disjointed and cray-cray, but that is part of the charm and the style, and it ends up serving the story.

I think Amazon might have mailed them by way of Australia, but my Blu-rays finally arrived today.

I'm so glad you finally got them, though that was quite a wait you had, there  [hall2_sad]  For what it's worth, I had another Amazon pre-order of something that was released this Tuesday, and for the second week in a row, the shipment was delayed, in spite of my being a Prime member and supposedly getting my preorders on the day of release (I don't think this is an actual guarantee, but they sure make it seem like I should expect this).  This time, they didn't cite a reason (backups from Sandy or the Nor'Easter, which really didn't affect us here in DC).  But it was delivered today.  I can't really complain, though, when I know that so many folks have been devastated by the storm.  Next up is my DS (Film) Visual Companion preorder, so we'll see if I have better luck with that one in a couple of weeks.

Holy Hekate, LOOK at those shoulders!  (jaw dropping at Cathy's snapshot of JLM's nude back)  THAT will get you through the straits of doldrum on a Saturday night!

Happy to be of service!   [hall2_grin]  And here's hoping for more shirtless scenes to come!   [hall2_wink]

I just checked on Amazon, and my HODS/NODS were delivered this morning (after I left for work, naturally).  That was one day better than their estimate, so I hope that y'all will be receiving your copies soon.
