DS made $3,670 yesterday (down 6.5% from Tuesday) for a total of $79,722,912.

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2012-08-15&p=.htm

The theater counts for next week have been linked from the home page, which usually means the list is "finished", but DS does not appear.  As MB says, that doesn't *necessarily* mean the film has closed, but it *might* mean that.  Well, at least we still have today's box office to consider  [ghost_wink]

Or is it that you never have the nerve to post what you think of?!  [naughty]  If so, you should really go for it. Don't be shy - especially because it all likelihood you'll be rewarded for it.  [laughing6]

No really, I'm not that shy!  [ghost_grin]  I just can't seem to be able to think of anything, but then I always laugh when I see what others post.  But if I do think of anything, I will try  [ghost_smiley]

MB, I was just composing this post while you posted, but I will go ahead and post this anyway- it addresses your question about what the theater counts might be this coming week:

The theater counts for next week will be reported this evening, but I noticed something on the box office mojo site this morning.  The tab for "showtimes" has been removed from DS's BOM page:

http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=darkshadows.htm

There are still "showtimes" tabs for both Rock of Ages and Bernie, which are 2 movies that are also nearing the end of their theatrical life.  So I wonder if this means that DS closes today, or if it'll simply be in too few theaters to bother to keep a "showtimes" tab (and its search function) available.

Either way, all in all, while I do wish that DS could've done slightly better at the box office (I'm too lazy to go back and read what I was hoping for somewhere earlier in this thread, but I suspect that I was originally hoping for $100 M), it did do respectably, especially by showing some "legs" later in its run.  I do hope that the DVD sales will be robust.  I have the blu-ray/DVD combo in my Amazon cart (along with HODS and NODS), but haven't yet hit the pre-order button, but I will pull the trigger soon.

^^^ I always thought I wanted to play the caption game, but when I actually saw the pictures I could never think of anything good!  And then when I see what others write, I always think, "Of course!  I wish I'd thought of that!"  I doubt I'd be much better at the complete the phrase/fill in the blanks game, but maybe I'll check it out later just in case  [ghost_smiley]

On another topic, the Tuesday box office take for DS was $3,927, up 8% from yesterday, which is not surprising since Tuesdays are usually a little better than Mondays.  The total is now: $79,719,242.

It's that time of day again  [ghost_wink]  DS made $3,637 yesterday, bringing the total to $79,715,315.  That's really not too bad for a drop from weekend to weekday numbers, and it easily beat out Rock of Ages.  I think that some of the numbers aren't in yet, but for what it's worth, here's box office's box office for Monday:

The film is running it's natural course as all films do. With a worldwide gross of $240 million, it's done fine.

Very true indeed.  It's just that when they initially listed 135 theaters for this week (though in retrospect, that must've been a mistake), I was kind of hopeful that there might be one last push towards $80 million.  And now I'm back to reality  [ghost_smiley]  But as you said, and as MB has demonstrated with many of his comparison numbers, it *has* done fine  [ghost_cool] [clap]

The weekend box office numbers are in for DS, and as expected, they have gone down a lot:

Fri. $6,826
Sat. $8,750
Sun. $7,830

Total weekend: $23,406

for a grand total now of: $79,711,678

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2012-08-12&p=.htm

Interestingly, BOM indicates that it was only playing in 45 theaters, not 135.  And the number in the Theater Counts has changed, though I didn't notice it having been changed.

http://boxofficemojo.com/counts/chart/?yr=2012&wk=32&p=.htm

I think this makes a lot more sense, though, actually, since so few of us can find it in theaters anymore.  I'll bet someone subtracted wrong and forgot to carry a number  [ghost_embarrassed]  Hmm, I wonder, then, if this will be its last week...

DS's box office take slipped a little more on Thursday, with $12,833 for a total now of $79,688,272.

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2012-08-08&p=.htm

Thursday looked like a screwy day, where some films like DS went down by a few percent, and some went up (Ice Age, Brave, Magic Mike, and why did Rock of Ages go up so much all of a sudden?)

It'll be interesting to see if DS will make a comparable amount next week (having 3 more theaters) or if it will drop a bit (some of you said it'll be having a fewer number of showings per day in the theaters it is remaining in).  Either way, with MB's analysis I think that DS can stand pretty proud of its run, considering.  If it can hang around in theaters for another 2 or 3 weeks, it will have stuck around for the entire summer during the time when teens and college kids were home from school.

I do wish that the darn foreign box office could've been updated at least once in the last month or more :(

Been busy most of the evening, and when I checked in here to see this evening's conversation I realized that we didn't yet know the theater count for next week.  So I popped over to BOM.

Wow, well, I don't know where (I wish I did!) but they have actually ADDED 3 theaters for the coming week!  It will be in 135 theaters:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/counts/chart/?yr=2012&wk=32&p=.htm

No help in my neck of the woods, as it's still not playing anywhere nearby.  But SOMEONE still has it playing.  What's funny is that I went straight to the "declining" part of the list, and when I didn't see DS listed there I thought maybe they were no longer even bothering to list it, but that didn't make sense because they usually list even theaters that are in 1 or 2 theaters in LA.  Then I thought maybe the list wasn't complete yet.  Luckily my eye eventually traveled up the list to "expanding" films  [ghost_wink]

The Wed. BO #'s are in for DS:  $13,439  (ack, that's quite a huge drop, even though it often drops on Wed.  [ghost_sad] )   The domestic total is now: $79,675,439.

Very few other numbers seem to be up quite yet.

I assumed that she had already been going by the name Victoria Winters, accidentally said her old name, looked up and was reminded of her new identity, and corrected herself.  Is this not a possible inference, or am I forgetting something that happened which would make this implausible?   [ghost_huh]

Well... this would be fine.  I think the one "implausibility" that some of us seem to be tripping over is that she looked up and saw that poster/ad before calling herself Victoria Winters.  One way to look at that (and the way I looked at it when I first saw the scene) would be that she thought of her new name right when she saw the poster, and changed her name right there on the spot.  But that would not fit with her having already applied for the job.

I guess it's also possible that she had already thought of her new name, possibly after being inspired by that same poster at some point previously.  However, what would have been the chances that while rehearsing her introduction on the train, that that exact poster would just happen to be on the train facing right back at her?  Unless we are to assume that that was a VERY popular ad that would've been everywhere she looked.  It just felt very clunky to me.  I think that at one point, perhaps on this thread, I even suggested that perhaps she could've been rehearsing her introduction, and then looked *down* at a clipping that she already had taken with her as a reminder- to me, that could've been a way to fit the idea that she must've already chosen the name before she was sitting there on the train.

I agree with most of what you say, KMR (especially the clunky way they had Maggie "suddenly" come up with a new name).  Gonna have to give it some thought to see if I have any additional thoughts on that...

Meanwhile, we have today's BO #'s from boxoffice.com:  $16,575 for a total now of $79,644,599

http://www.boxoffice.com/statistics/bo_numbers/daily/2012-08-07

It did just a little less than Abraham Lincoln, though it's been in theaters 6 weeks longer  [ghost_smiley]  It should not quite make it to $79.7M by the end of the week.  So close and yet so far from that elusive $80M!  [ghost_embarrassed]

The DS numbers for the weekend are in.  Alas, as expected, it's making less now that it has lost so many theaters, and has even gotten behind the likes of Abraham Lincoln and Prometheus (though granted, both are much more recent releases).  But at least it's still chugging along.  Its numbers:

Fri. $32,532
Sat. $42,179
Sun. $34,127
Weekend: $108,838

Domestic total is now: $79,628,024

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2012-08-05&p=.htm

It looks like it's listed 34th on BOM's weekend list, but I don't think the list is complete yet because the heading still says estimates, and most but not all the numbers are actuals:
