Where The Hell Did This Movie Come From?!
« on: October 17, 2014, 05:20:52 PM »
Wolfcop

I've never heard of it, though Amazon just sent me an alert about it - probably because I've order loads of other horror themed DVDs/Blu-rays from them. But who knows - I suppose it could be a lot better than its title makes it sound.  [hall2_wink]

Then I'm SHOCKED they DIDN'T send me an offering....I know what you mean.

Speaking of 'not heard of' infamous flicks, two times in a 10-day period, I heard of "The Old Dark House", which I now *think* is a genre-type of nowadays, but, 1932 had this movie, starring Boris Karloff.

I cannot believe I've never heard of it, but again, TWICE in such a short spance...I went to Amazon, ordered it, and it comes up with the usual "People who have bought this often buy ______________"...and there is a movie called, "Dark and Stormy Night" (or that's close).
It has Daniel Roebuck (Cliff, from Matlock), and the price was right, so I ordered them both.
IT ALSO HAS JIM BEAVER!!!!!!!
Plus, I forget his name, but the senior sales guy in "Poltergeist" AND a brief little appearanceS by Betty Garrett (was Irene on All in the Family, and married "Laverne's dad" on "Laverne & Shirley").
It's soooooooooo bad, that it's good. I don't think it'll catch on say the way "Rocky Horror" did, but, if it's on your Netflix, et. al., I'd say watch it.

I'm waiting for tomorrow night to watch "Old Dark House."

There was a remake of The Old Dark House in the early 1960's, starring Tom Poston, of all people. It's fun but it kept the original off TV for a long time.

Dark and Stormy Night intentionally lampoons the old dark house genre.  I got a kick out of watching it.  The filmmaker has made other low-budget parodies of sci-fi B-movies, even copying the silly titles (witness Trail of the Screaming Forehead).

UncleRoger, I think that Poston Old Dark House (a William Castle film, BTW) is set to come on TCM pretty soon.

Thanks, ProfStokes. I haven't seen that in decades. It also features the lovely Jeannette Scott, forever immortalized in the song that opens Rocky Horror.

The Poston film aired the 16th, unfortunately.

The original version with Boris Karloff is on YouTube. The Poston version doesn't seem to be.

I can't reconcile the two versions in my head, you know, Karloff/Frankenstein's monster - Poston/George Utley.

I watched, "Dark and Stormy Night", then with the director and 2-3 actors cut.
I believe everyone in this film knew each other on some level; the basics are from Boston.
The leading lady (newswoman to D. Roebuck's newsman) is in reality the writer's/director's wife.

The movie is fun and funny. Jim Beaver told the writer/director he wanted to be in something funny, so he was asked immediately.

I'm still watching the 1932 'Dark House', it is frickin' off the wall.

There's one thing off-topic which I have to say:

Watch it....there's a scene with a Betty-Boop type actress. She & Melvyn Douglas go to his car to get some whiskey.

The entire scene....this actress  ABSOLUTELY MUST BE CLOSELY RELATED TO CLAIRE KRAMER. Every, EVERY part of her face, all the expressions, eyes, mouth, nose. If this were a current movie, I'd say, "Oh, there's Claire Kramer, with her hair cut & dyed dark".

Boris Karloff....aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
lovelovelovelove
what a friggin whack-a-doodle-doo pic this is!!!! (Are we absolutely SURE LSD wasn't around in 1932?)
