I have to wonder if Trask defeating Cass (& the devil) was in any way an appeasement towards the religious critics of the show?

Forgiveness changes both parties, Magnus. Though it did still seem odd - both Sam & Maggie being on the concerned lips of Roger Collins. I'll give you that. Another mile marker is the opening scene, reminiscent of the scene from day one with Liz at the window and Roger behind her. Except this time Liz is weak & scared and Roger is genuinely concerned for his sister's welfare.

Moltke OVO - :)

Edmonds rocks but Bennett falters. I like the green outfit, perfect pearls and matching hair bow & coat. Parker is in good form and Cass is as mean as ever. I barely get it but I've given up on trying to make sense of things at this particular point in time. Plus, so many of the words I want to use while discussing Cass are not allowed on the Forum. It's good to know that Trask is still on the scene. Now, never did I think I would be able to state that. Joe's got the right idea - marry Maggie and take her away. The foyer scene almost worked but fell short again because of Bennett. Bravo, again for Vicki for being curt with Cass. But Trask wins the prize in the fight against Cass. The scene in the drawing room was fabulous - the acting and writing. The scene at the tree was just okay. The performances were slightly lacking at times. It goes to show you how hard the craft actually is. And why they present Oscars for editing. I totally enjoyed Cass/Ang's defeat. Love Trask's black ensemble. I wonder if this is the banishment of the butterfly dress as well?

"God, have pity on this poor suffering servant!" (Visions of Yosemite Sam dance in my head...)

I was so enthralled by your sympathy for the character's disloyal treatment that I didn't even realize you were making fun of his dream performance.

Hey, if we don't inspire each other to think, what good are we, or this 'project'?

KLS should not do OVOs. Knowing this was Gothick's first episode made it a delight to watch. I pretended to watch as though for the first time ever and it was fascinating to think of what might be going through my head at that young age. The mention of a witch & the weirdness of the Adam character would have been enough to draw me in.

First, Vicki's dress is atrocious, the flair of it is nauseating. Second, there's something about a hospital setting that makes for good 'soap opera'. There are a lot of closeups and both women look beautiful in them. The fast pan of the camera to Stokes' entrance was very dramatic. I don't recall the use of this technique before. (Very 'Patty Duke Show'.) Vicki was indignant regarding Stokes interceding and I loved the tears on her face in the hallway scene. Thayer is particularly good here as he is throughout. I can't get over how soap opery this ep is, the camera pans, closeups, etc. Love Vicki's torment as Sam calls out to her - nice job by Moltke. I guess Stokes curiosity is getting the better of him because I really can't think of any uncontrived reason for him to pursue Adam in the middle of all this high drama. Rodan continues his winning streak with his portrayal of Adam. Ford was the weakest but he did okay. His 'blooper' might make one think that the director didn't yell cut after every take. Two of my favorite music cues from the first weeks of the series were used - I loved it. Good episode, I enjoyed it very much. KLS may have underperformed just a tad, but still rolled over Ford in comparison.

Moltke OVO - instant comfort.

Cass survives. Too bad. Barnabas Collins will be destroyed? I'll let that one go. Nice to see Vicki again - Hair up. It seemed weird that Cass would walk in with her purse. Vicki is standoffish to Cass - good. Shouldn't somebody find it strange that Cass is hovering over Sam Evans all the time? Sam looks f'n ridiculous. And his glasses are too small for his head. Why do they do this continuously on this show, wtf? Crothers & Scott - good job in the hospital scene. Cass is on to the Adam/Barn connection and I guess we get something by Sam falling off before Cass gets anything out of him. That's one cheer better than Vicki being rude. Witches drink coffee. Ford does pretty well with the dream. You'd think Sam would be amazed that he can 'see' in the dream, but then again, maybe it is more realistic for him not to realize that he can see or at least 'know' who is beckoning him. And Vicki  is certainly head & shoulders above all the other beckoners. They finally got that right. By Jove I think this is the best dream they've done. I'm really impressed. Ford is superb. I guess he decided to go out with a bang. Scott looks fab in black. My MPI VHS video jumps/glitches a lot after the dream sequence - Extremely annoying. I guess we really shouldn't be surprised that Vicki shows up to hear the dream. I honestly thought that Stokes ended the Dream Curse. I have to admit that I am glad I don't remember how the Dream Curse plays out and so I am eager to find out. Everyone did well in this episode. The MPI home video commercial is jumping too, so it's the tape. Stupid MPI, lol.

Parker does okay with the OVO.

The Old House basement set keeps changing. The alcove next to Barn is closed last ep, this ep in the reenactment it is an open thruway again. And in my memory the alcove on the other side wasn't there, nor was it bricked up. Maybe I'm hallucinating.

Hall looks great.

"Oh, Willie! Shut up and get to work!" (lol)

Karlen really hams it up and it is good. Julia pleading with Trask was iffy for me. It seemed ridiculous but then I realized, we could see Trask, but I don't think Julia could, so then it didn't seem so stupid - plus, when I thought of how much Jules cares for Barn and she was pleading for his life, well, that made it seem okay too.

 "AAAAAHHHIIIIIIIIT'S BARNABAS!!" (lol)

You might think that Liz would throw Cass out on her can. But I can think of many reasons she does not. I'm not as thrilled with the Cass/Liz thang as Nicky is but to each his own. If it had been anyone else opposite Cass/Parker, then maybe. I guess my not being an Angelique fan and being a big Liz fan is what's really wrong.  And though I hate to admit it, Bennett doesn't always pull it off. Or maybe I just hate seeing a weakened Liz. I don't know.

"He moved!" (lol)

I really liked the scene of Barn's awakening. Everyone played it perfectly. Hall & Frid subdued and Willie excited but controlled (well, at least after his initial outburst). Hall and Frid played the hopefulness of their characters superbly. I thought Frid was in rare form. I loved every bit of the scene. And it looked great too. Willie states they saw Trask so I guess I was wrong about that. I like and agree with Magnus' thoughts on Willie's hysteria 'grounding' the audience amid all the nonchalance. I don't know that I'll ever be convinced that Willie should be so in love with Barnabas, though. And I can't wait to see Barn's reaction to the latest on Adam.

The tomb states Naomi died in 1821 - I guess this was done to carry out the myth of the whole Barn thing not happening. Bennett has some good moments here. I was happy to see that Liz still has some fight left in her. Parker is good in this episode, I'll give you that (begrudgingly, lol).

Hall's OVO was good. I like KLS's beating on Adam to get him off of Willie - it made me laugh out loud. The scene is a little over the top for my taste and mostly because of Karlen but I've got to give him credit for going for the gusto. Ford was awful. Though what could one do with those asinine lines. Another great moment for me is when Mag's hits Adam with the hammer, lol. She actually hits him which I would think is not supposed to happen. I'm glad the scene ended when it did because KLS was beginning to lose her edge. A self-evaluating Adam is an interesting touch though perhaps misplaced, but the actor was there so why not I guess. Poor little Maggie Evans - Pop is dying - No one at home to protect her anymore from the big bad bogeymen. I guess there was no need for Joe to move in because of the forthcoming storyline, but I wonder if it would have been considered at some point. Probably not - at least not without a wedding.

I thought KLS did extremely well in the cottage scene with Karlen after returning from the hospital. Karlen was very good.

Thank goodness for Julia Hoffman - Solves dilemmas with her brain - All she needs are a few clues. Thank goodness Willie came back home, otherwise Barn would be dead. My favorite scene is the one with Julia & Willie in the Old House drawing room when they are discussing what to do about Adam, and to a lesser extent the basement scene. Karlen takes the scene in my opinion as Hall seems somewhat hesitant in her approach.

The cues were lacking, especially in Hall's scene with the ghost of the sobbing Josette. Hall can be seen waiting/looking for cues and the special effect was misplaced in the scene and did not match Hall's reactions. Even the sobbing sound effect was misplaced once or twice. Bad work all round. Rodan was fine. I would have been surprised that Adam attacked Sam back in the day. For some odd reason I am always expecting Adam to improve with time.
