Those are really fantastic prices. I checked it out in comparison to MPI, and well, there is no comparison. MPI is way more expensive. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm sorry I missed it. I've been computer-less for about six months and only just started catching up with things now. Of course, MGM HD repeats things quite often, so I'll probably catch it next go'round. [ghost_cool]

Oh, Jimbo - this is a great article! It is done with so much admiration and respect -- for the show itself, for the character of Barnabas and for Frid, the actor. What a delightful treat this Halloween day! Thanks so much, Jimbo. Barnabas Collins, was, indeed, one of the greatest vampires of the 20th century, unique in his angst and self-loathing and ability to make us sympathize with his plight rather than simply fear him and wish him dispatched to the bowels of hell. Wonderful! [hall2_kiss]

Bob, I say go the whole nine yards -- do a lift and plump up those thin vampy lips with some collagen -- works for me! LOL! [8_1_203]

I'm so sorry, Annie. As ProfStokes said, it seems no one's safe from these types of things these days. May I suggest this? Instead of looking for a job in the same field as you were in or along those lines, rethink everything. What are your passions? What really appeals to you? Perhaps you can reinvent yourself and go in a completely different direction. Sometimes, we tend to have tunnel vision where our lives and careers are concerned. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this tough time.

You'll be in my prayers, Jeannie.

I'm of two minds here, Jimbo. One is that, yes, homage should have been paid to Dark Shadows and Frid's ground-breaking interpretation of the vampire as self-loathing and tortured, something that's been emulated ever since. However, it would appear, at least from the article, that this Vampire-Con was kind of a freak show. I'd rather see our beloved show and Barnabas treated with a lot more respect.

I'm so happy to hear this great news! Congrats to Jonathan Frid -- very richly deserved award!

This is so great, Frank! Hey, maybe you put a little bee in his bonnet, and he'll attend a festival. I know he's up there in age, but it sounds like he could do it. That would be fabulous.

BTW, I used to ride the #6 train regularly. All I ever encountered were thugs -- LOL! [ghost_cheesy]

Yes, indeed, Magnus -- Frid's interpretation of the vampire's angst and self-loathing was the first such characterization. It was certainly ground-breaking. Of course, a lot of credit also has to go to Dan Curtis who had to scramble to change the storylines when it was obvious Barnabas Collins drove the ratings through the roof. He had to be redeemed in some way. All in all, it was brilliant and changed the map for the vampire genre all the way around. EW really dropped the ball here, but what can you expect from a bunch of green kids? Really -- kinda reminds me of the TMZ crowd.

Current Talk '09 II / Re: Ben Cross speaks DS

What's really sad is, the WB missed the boat entirely! I mean, look at the plethora of vampire TV series that are now running, not to mention that whole "Twilight" phenomenon (not that I'm a fan, though). Let's hope the Depp film will rev things up again for our beloved show.

I'm sorry to hear about NODS. While I absolutely hated HODS, NODS had a lot of potential, even if you could obviously see it was cut to smithereens in the editing process. Way to ruin what seemed to be a good flick!

Jimbo, I doubt the 2004 DS pilot will ever be released on DVD. Isn't that what Jim Pierson has been saying at the festivals? Dan Curtis was very unhappy with it and felt it was "unfinished" and that he wasn't given enough time to fix it. Even the music wasn't set. I've seen it a few times now, and although I can see some similarities to the 1991 series, I can't see a lot to recommend someone buying it, even if they haven't seen it. I bet, though, it'll be shown once again at this year's fest. See you there! [ghost_grin]

This is great, Jimbo! Thanks for posting this. I actually love the way Ben Cross portrayed Barnabas. He hit so many nuances, IMHO. Of course, by the very nature of the way it was filmed, he had much more time and freedom than Jonathan Frid had, so I'm not taking anything away from "the master." Still, Ben Cross was phenomenal in the role.

I'll be there again this year, and I look like the picture I have up here. Also, those who go regularly should recognize me from the Collinsport Players skits. Last year, I played Elizabeth. The two years prior, I was Blanche Devereaux. I would love to finally meet you guys in person. Thus far, I haven't really been that successful. It's only been by happenstance that I've bumped into some forum members.
