Salem, on the coast a few miles northeast of Boston, is known for the Salem Witch Trials during America’s early colonial period. In 1692-93, residents of the Puritan village and surrounding area were rocked by numerous accusations and persecutions of people suspected of malicious witchcraft (cruel spells and curses, strange abilities, unexplained maladies, etc.). In the widespread hysteria and paranoia, men and women were subjected to horrifying imprisonment, often-biased “guilty or innocent” trials, and severe physical tests to “prove” witchcraft. Twenty people – 14 of them women – received death sentences by hanging; 1 man was crushed by heavy stones. Additionally, 5 others (including 2 infants) died in prison.

LARA PARKER’s  2nd novel – “DS: The Salem Branch” – explores the chaotic and terrifying events through the eyes and life of “Miranda Duval,” LARA’s DS character as an early incarnation of Angelique in the 1692 flashback sequence. Lara extensively researched late 17th century life in the area and traveled to Salem in the course of writing the book.

Personally-autographed copies of the novel (and her other 3 DS novels – “Angelique’s Descent” (#1), “Wolf Moon Rising” (#2), and the latest and final book, “Heiress of Collinwood” (#4) – are now available directly from Lara:

Hmmm - weren't we to understand that Collinsport is located in Hancock County, close to Frenchman Bay? I know a lot of the Press releases and early DS articles said that. Though I don't recall if they ever said that on the show.

Cruises from NY to New England were just starting up about 5 years before we moved from NJ.
I was thinking about taking my family on one.

The people who I know did go on these cruises would all say Oct. 1st is too cold.

(Also, the 'layover's don't last very long....this cruise could be different though I suppose.)
