It said when I FINALLY got to the board tonight, that I wouldn't be able to post new topics and it was right. But everyone else is! Is this something along the lines of ME being shut out for weeks, and when I get here at last I see that others have been posting for two weeks or so? :'(The conversion was only completed this afternoon, and no one has started any new topics since. All the topics you're seeing on the boards were begun prior to Sunday afternoon when we went offline.
What is the new karma feature (applaud/smite) all about and how does it work?

I have tried to get here every single day for weeks and weeks!!! Why/how were others able to?
Welcome back. :)
Wow - I'm getting all sorts of weird things happening on hereAs the 1st page warns, "Please don't be surprised by anything you might see or that happen while you're there."
Can't do anything in my profile -- get errors. What are you not able to change in your profile?
We can't collapse anything anymore??Collapsing was a feature that was eventually added to the other YaBB version of the forums in an effort to save bandwidth, and with MB's most recent priority having been to get the forum converted and to the point that we could reopen, and with more tweaking required, that along with several other features have to wait.

Why/how were others able to?Kuanyin, I don't know any details about the problem you were having, but a couple of things come to mind. First off, following our move to an interim server about 3 weeks ago, emails were sent to all members on January 26 asking them to update their bookmarks in order to access the forums. Secondly, there's a topic on this board called "Problems Accessing the New Board?" that you might want to check out to see if you can find your answer there. Sorry, but I don't know what else to tell you right now.
I like seeing the posts that I reply to under the message box!
Why is the text so small [except for Connie and Minja] ? [Size IS important!]
Please not to smite me!
What are you not able to change in your profile?
If it helps, it appears that avatars are required to be 65 x 68 pixels.

Oh, I was just trying to take the quotation marks away from the words under the avatar 'cause they don't show up right. It won't let me change anything in the profile - I keep getting the 65 x 68 error message but I wasn't doing anything with the avatar.Connie, I peeked at your avatar image, and this is a guess cuz this new forum setup is new to me too, but converting the image to pixels shows it's more than 4 times the recommended size, so it could be (as I said, this is just a guess) that the system isn't letting you save your updated profile cuz it's not accepting such a large image.
This is the default size for YaBB SE. However, I can probably change that if people think it's too small...
Even got some kind of crash with a list of other people's errors, someone's password, and strange code up above the Forums logo. :oThe error messages above the forum came up because I was fiddling with the password to the forum's MySQL database. The listing was about that and the PHP scripts that didn't like what I'd done, so I changed everything back to the way it had been. But no user passwords were actually displayed. ;)

Patience, my dear - all will be revealed in due time. ;)
However, I can probably change that if people think it's too small...

I have to agree with Rainey. I know my vision has gone downhill in my bad eye but this was too much. I like to relax in desk chair while I read the board; not use a magnifying glass. This size is fine. However, I can probably change that if people think it's too small...
IF we think it's too small? IF?.....My next option involves running my fingertips over the screen! YES, it's too damned small!! ::)
rainey.....who would be suspected of being an imposter if she wasn't bitching about something.

Where oh where has my little spellcheck gone??
.....but NOT bithchin'!!!
Luciaphil gave me the clue in her response so I did what I did before and used SEARCH. I think I know the answer.Woo hoo, we appreciate it when users educate themselves! Yes, there's always a link from these boards to the YaBB forums (currently YaBB SE).

I've also been having trouble with my profile. Everytime I try to update my profile, it says my current email address is 'currently in use.' I'm sure it's not the image because I was trying to use one of the ones from the list of avatars.VWR, thanks for telling me the specific error message because it helps tremendously. When you attempted to update, our new setup detected a previous registration of yours with the same addy that's in your current profile. I took care of it as same as we did back in July, so you should be able to update without seeing the error.
First of all, YEAH! I can access this site on my Mac again! ;DThat's great news!!!
I was just in the YaBB site. WOW! :o Are we able to use all these different avatars and smilies that they show or is that up to you to decide what you want for the board?Luciaphil gave me the clue in her response so I did what I did before and used SEARCH. I don't know if this will help you or not, but I DID get the email. The only problem was that it had the same URL that I already had and did NOT bring me here. I did get a personalized "Kuanyin" with my error message, which was rather interesting....Then yesterday, I tried it (as I had every day) and it linked me here. Thanks, kuanyin. I'm sorry to say I don't have any ideas to offer as to why you got the error message, and the thread I mentioned concerned posters that were having problems maneuvering on the forums after they were already here due to their firewalls. :- If you again find yourself unable to access the site for a prolonged period of time, please don't hesitate to email one of us. But the important thing is that you're able to get here now, whew.
Does the [applause] [smite] thing have something to do with avatars or the lack thereof? No.
As far as smileys go, I'm not quite sure what you're referring to because they only have the same smileys that we currently have installed.I was referring to the YaBB Smiley Sets under LINKS. I was looking for a shamrock smiley or a waving leprechaun. They had skeletons, pumpkins, cats, etc.
I went to change my profile to add my birthday but the message said I could not change my profile because my avatar is too large. What does that have to do with what I was changing. I am an extreme technophope so I think I will leave well enough alone.Hey!!! We share a birthday! So how does it feel to be two days old? ;)
I was referring to the YaBB Smiley Sets under LINKS. I was looking for a shamrock smiley or a waving leprechaun. They had skeletons, pumpkins, cats, etc.Oh, OK. I had a few of those sets downloaded for the SP forum, but never had a chance to install them when their holiday came around. :( But hopefully I'll be able to install one the next time around. I could also install one of the horror themed set if enough people would prefer that over the basic yellow set. ;)
the message said I could not change my profile because my avatar is too large. What does that have to do with what I was changing.Even though you were only making one change, everything in your profile is updated. And SE is far more strick about enforcing the 65X68 rule than SP was, so that's why you received the error.
I am an extreme technophope so I think I will leave well enough alone. To update your avatar, just open it in whatever graphics software you have on your computer and then resize/resample it. Your original image is 645X437, so you would have to resize/resample it to 65X44 to use the image as is. Or you could crop it before you resize so that Penny's pretty face shows up better. :)
Please don't be afraid to try - resizing/resampling is really pretty easy. It just takes a little practice. :)Onyx_treasure, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
my husband resized Penny's picture for my avatar.
Can we look forward to finding phrases in other languages around our new digs? :D
resized Penny's picture for my avatar.
Thanks, Ringo. Penny is a 5 lb. bit of fluff adopted from our local animal shelter.resized Penny's picture for my avatar.
Hey what a cute cat! Before you resized, I thought your avatar was a coffee grinder!
