Current Talk '04 I / Re:How & when you discovered Dark Shadows
« on: February 10, 2004, 03:57:39 AM »
After reading the 3 pages of how we discovered DS,  i might be one of a few that was attracted first by the music only, i remember my older brother back in 1971 use to play the stereo soundtrack album over and over and very loud. my dad would get upset and yell at him to lower it down.  well 5 years later, i discovered that one of the local channels was airing DS at night, same time as the 11 o'clock news. again my dad wasn't too happy to have me standing there each night  ready to change the channel from his nightly news to DS. 1976 was when i first watch DS.  on the other hand, my mom loves DS and is even reading "dreams of the dark" and she is 70 years old!  -robert

Cheryl, what a wonderful web site you have, really like all the pictures. it's a fitting remembrance tribute to a young man that left us too soon.  keep up the great work. -robert

Iam sure "Evanhanley" knows the work you are doing Darren, really don't understand why he wouldn't answer any of your emails. you will be the first to know if i come across anything relating to either movie, that is rare. -robert

Never read this one before...That was a awesome interview. thank you Connie for posting the link.  David Selby really talked alot about the daily going-ons and the behind the scenes of DS. i noticed "ed" the DS expert (which he did know alot about DS), did not correct Dagon when he said John Karlen was a doctor in NODS. and david Selby agreed with him. from what  i remember, is that john Karlen & Nancy Barrett were both husband & wife mystery writers in NODS. correct me  if iam  wrong about this?

Darren, I sold Evanhanley a couple of rare "curse of dark shadows" stills just under 2 years ago. very nice person, just can't remember his name right now.  (i think you emailed me about them too), he was very adamant that i would not make any copies of the stills, which i have kept my word and haven't.  Tborgxx is another heavy bidder when it comes to rare DS. and has out-bidded me before on items.  by the way...you have a very impressive website. -robert

Current Talk '04 I / Re:Which Burke?
« on: February 07, 2004, 07:40:01 AM »
just gonna echo "the ghost of sarah" on this, i thought Mitch Ryan was the better Burke, as is  Anthony George played Jeremiah very well. would have been something to see if M.R. went up against adam.  i never noticed how M.R.  entered a room without knocking, will have to re-watch my earlier tapes.  -robert

Dom,  same as you,  when it comes to the paperback books,  hands down they are my favorite.  dosen't matter if the covers are torn, worn or water damaged, i'd never part with them.    by the way, though it's not laminated,  i do carry a picture of Angelique in my wallet.  i heard that was a very cool DS  festival held at the MGM Grand. i stay there often when visiting relatives.

Wishing you a very "Happy birthday" Mr. David Selby, and may you have many many more.

Hello Crazyjenny & Bobubas, now thats a name i remember...sue ellen wilson, do you keep in touch with her?  if so, how is she doing?  i think i still have some of her old "for sale" newsletters around here and i know i have a DS collectors guide up-date that she and craig hamrick put out back in 92. it's like 18 pages long and came  stapled together.  look forward to talking more with you about the "old" times. -robert

Hello Cassandra, yes it has taken me a long time to aquire my collection, i regret letting some of it go like a couple of original scripts and my josettes music box (which did not have it's lid). i guess there was a big warehouse find on the music box's back in early 1990's, all without lids!!!. Gary over at shadowland in PA made duplicates for 15.00. so if you have the original 1970 box. hold on to it. MPI is re-releasing the box on feb 17, supposedly...they keep pushing back the date.  -robert

Currently i have 163 of the Marilyn Ross novels with 2 of the paperback box's,  (i started collecting DS in 1976). when the novels could be found and bought for 25 cents each.  I used to buy and sell on the DS collectiable classifieds (DSCC).  the rarest DS items i have are the Angelique ghost doll from NODS,  30+ of the sunday comic strips from Los Angeles and the Barnabas Collins glow in the dark poster by western publishing.

***This photo was taken about 1999, does not show my MPI tapes or DS posters.
