Title: Crushes on DS Stars
Post by: DarkShadowyFigure on February 28, 2007, 01:16:36 AM
Back in the day of the original airings, I had quite a crush on Alexandra Moltke. After she left the show, the crush fell on Kathryn Leigh Scott. Now as I'm watching DS reruns on dvd, and viewing the 1840 time period, I have a crush on 1971 Lee Beery (Joanna Mills). Too bad she's not in the show for long. Wonder whatever happened to her? I also wonder if my crushes have anything to do with the characters these actresses portrayed. Two governesses and um, well maybe it's some other trait.

So, if you had or do have a crush on someone from the show, who was it?

Barnabas is my favorite character, so I sorta have a crush on him, though I think he's more handsome than sexy.

However, Bramwell, Quentin, Desmond, Kendrick.....yum yum! Talk about FINE looking men here!

I think it's no secret that I had a terrific crush on The Lovely And Talented Kathryn Leigh Scott.  I so wanted her to be my governess when I watched DS on its initial run.  I still want her to be my governess.

I don't have crushes on stars but on characters. I am in love with Willie Loomis and I have a crush on Quentin. Quentin is so gorgeous but as a character he leaves a lot to be desired. He drinks too much and is a womanizer. To get involved with him would be heartache for a woman. In 1970 parallel time he's not a womanizer but he still has a vicious temper. He acts like a two year old having a tantrum every time something doesn't go his way. He needs a lot of maturing.

Willie OTOH, once he changes he becomes a beautiful person. And he's so sweet and adorable I can't help but melt in every scene he's in. I love JK's other characters too with the exception of Carl, Carl is too high strung and drives me crazy to look at him. But William H. Loomis, Desmond Collins and Kendrick Young are also huge crushes of mine.

To a lesser extent I like Chris Jennings (along with Tom Jennings and Tim Shaw).

my d.s. "crush" is an especially odd one in that while i play for the other team(if you get my drift)as many of you are probably(painfully)aware i am totally smitten by alexandra moltke as victoria winters.

i can't really explain it.she's so pretty.she has such nice hair.i like the sound of her voice.

when she's onscreen i'm transifixed.even at vicki's vapid and wimpy worst(and she spent the better part of 1968 there)i like seeing her. :P

My primary crush on the show is Maggie Evans as a redhead with her hair shorn in bangs. BTW your photo of her looks like the scene where she is hearing beckoner Jeff Clark recite the 'Dream Curse' riddle.  She's the person I'd most like to know personally.  She is Ms. Sunshine in the often fog shrouded world of Collinsport (where it never rains or snows, but thunders almost every other episode, lol).

My runnerup favorite is Roxanne Drew. She looks especially stunning in the 1840 storyline (i.e., BEFORE she becomes one of the living dead).

So, if you had or do have a crush on someone from the show, who was it?

Hell, Lara was the first woman I ever fell madly in love with, and at age 10, I was reasonably certain there would never be anyone else for me. I remember damn near boo-hooing when [spoiler]Barnabas professed his love for Angelique and she died.[/spoiler] I figured life as I knew it had ended. It did, actually -- at least until we found ourselves in parallel time.

Ohhhhh yeah! When he comes in from a night of werewolfing and his shirt is ripped open, and Beth meets him as he falls to the floor, well if I were her, I'd be ripping the rest of the shirt off. Hey, it's ruint anyway lol!  :P He also looks downright delicious when he's sort of leaning back with his eyes closed. I love his blue eyes when they're open too. But like I said in above post, he's the one I like to look at, and drool over, and dream of, well, you know. But my heart belongs to Willie.

As a prepubescent girl, I had a crush on Quentin. He was so tall and handsome with those incredible blue eyes. However, when I began watchng the reruns on Sci-Fi, before I acquired the entire series on VHS, I was drawn to Adam. There was such a sweetness and innocence to him at first, particularly when he developed an infatuation for Carolyn. I always believed she wanted to return that feeling, but it was impossible because she knew what he was and how he was created. Even after poor Adam was so badly manipulated by Nicholas and became a terror, I couldn't help but feel sympathy for him. So, now he's the one I have a crush on, if you can call it that. Can a middle-aged lady still have crushes? LOL!

Don Briscoe and Grayson Hall. Less a crush with Grayson - more like being smitten by her presence/essence on DS, whatever part she was portraying at the time. And Don... I read somewhere he was a champion swimmer and diver in high school. Sigh. Why wasn't Chris Jennings ever dressed in a speedo (Collinwood should have installed an indoor pool the minute Chris moved onto the estate)?!

As a kid I had a crush on most of the women on Dark Shadows, I was such a slut.  But if I had to narrow it down to just one  "and I'm sure most of the straight guys will back me up on this"  it would have to be Abigail Collins.

Something tells me Abigail would be one hot mama in bed (or wherever) when she let her hair down. All that repression would come flooding out!  [b003]

A certain amount of self-flaggelation would have to be involved I would think.   She would then offer to do you a big spiritual favor, and cleanse you of sin also in a similar manner.

Buzz uses ROFLMAOPIMP, though I'm not sure how widespread that is.   Good thing we don't have to do any cyber-cleaning-up-after-ourselves, here.

There are a lot of gorgeous men on this show , and I have to give honorable mention to Don Briscoe and David Selby , but my crushes are on Peter/Jeff and Joe .
Funny enough , Ned , Dirk and Tate didn't have the same effect on me , so I guess personality counts . Nathan is smoking hot , but I know bad boys are no good ! Apparently it's the good boys who do it for me !Quentin is gorgeous but too fickle in his attentions.
Joe is so sweet and decent . Perfect husband material .
Jeff is handsome , and so devoted he crossed centuries for love ! He's also seems to be oversexed , he always seemed very , um , authentic , when making out with Vicky . I don't recall anybody else onthe show getting into their love scenes with as much enthusism as Jeff!

I thought there was a slashy component (no doubt this existed only in my own twisted mind) in the scenes between the original Reverend Trask and Nathan Forbes that were featured in the slideshows a couple of days ago.

Between Trask's HEAVY eyeliner and his sweaty-palmed "enthusiasm," and the Bad Lieutenant's lecherous swagger, I really was ready to see Trask get down on his knees for my OWN idea of "that old time religion" and a little "divine" service (um, not so little when you realize what was inside those "vulgar" trousers).

Perhaps the scene could have played to Dusty Springfield's recording of "Just a little lovin', early in the mornin', beats a cuppa coffee for startin' out the day..." Oh, my bad, Dust did not record that song till the 1968 Atlantic "Dusty in Memphis" sessions.

cheers, G.

I find Vicki Winters the most attractive of the women of DS - her sweetness and vulnerability, Moltkes's beautiful voice and face and figure and hair, etc. But for me her most striking feature is her eyes. There's something haunting about them, and it took me a long time to figure out what it was. It's that they're not perfectly aligned. Has anyone else ever noticed this? It's difficult to detect when you're watching her on the show, but you can see it in still shots. This is the best example I've found:

They're mesmerizing...

I keep noticing more and more uneven sets of eyes on actors.   Antoinette Bower, big in TV guest shots in the 60s, had one level eye and one slanted eye.

retzev,

i love that photograph.it's so glamourous.i wonder when it was taken.it must have been after her time on the show.

i believe that it was luciaphil who once said that perhaps the boxy "mod" lines of the 1960's were not as flattering to alexandra's figure as they might have been.perhaps the curvier silhouettes of the 1950's would have suited her better.the a-line shapes sometimes look dumpy on her and the above-the-knee lengths cut her legs off at an unfortunate place.

to me kathryn leigh scott had the "gamine" quality to perfectly carry off these styles.she wore the shortest skirts of any actress on the show.

slightly off-topic but having met several of the actresses on the show i'm struck by how tiny some of them are.the camera definitely adds hieght.nancy barrett and diana millay are pint-sized!kathryn and alexandra are slightly taller but i still had to look down to them.lara parker and marie wallace are the only actresses i think that seemed tall to me. Yesterday I was transferring some of the '91 series' pre-publicity promos/interviews from VHS to DVD after not having seen them or the series for several years, and I was definitely reminded of how really appealing Joanna Going is as Vicki. And she and Ben Cross have excellent chemistry. The promos can't help but draw you into the show and make you want to watch it. "Experience the passion like never before - 'as it was meant to be.'" (Unfortunately, though, I have too much to do around here to prepare for the upgrade to SMF 1.2, so that will have to wait until after the update has been completed...)

I have to say Joanna Going definitely made an appealling Vicki, she reminded me so much of Alexandra's Vicki in the daytime show at the very beginning, before she got dumbed down. And her interpertation of Josette was equally spellbounding as well.

Even though I feel Ben Cross was only so-so as Barnabas, I did think he had more chemistry with Joanna than he did with Barbara Steele.

The only guy on the revival show that I felt I could go ga-ga over would have to be Michael T. Weiss.

When I originally watched the show, I also had crushes on Barnabas and David. [love10] (You may wonder, "Why David?"  [shkdg]  Well... He was close to my age, and I really identified with him.)  Even though I always loved Quentin, my crush on him intensified greatly when I saw him on the show after I found DS again on Sci-Fi five years ago.  [luv]

As a middle-aged woman, now I find I'm attracted to more of them!  [cheesyg] All the characters John Karlen played, Joe Haskell, Chris Jennings, Sam Evans, Jeff Clark/Peter Bradford, both Burkes,  even Professor Stokes! [winkg]  Swoon!   [love5]

It was odd, but I had a crush on Kate Jackson months before I knew she had been on DS. I'd seen her on "The Rookies" but really noticed her on "Charlies Angels". This show came around about the time WLVI TV 56 showed the reruns in the '70s.  I was watching at the time and was surprised to read in a TV Guide article about Angels, that Kate had been on the show as a ghost! I kept waiting for her, and Quentin to turn up! But in the long term, my biggest crush has been on Angelique.

I adore Charlies Angels. It is mindless fun.  LOL  Or "Mind Candy" as Aaron would say.  However, it did help to break a lot of barriers down for women in  television.  And of course, Honey West was the first and then Police Woman with Angie Dickinson which I am watching.  It is pretty gritty actually and Angie really gets the hang of the television show in her second year.  Nice spin off of POLICE STORY!  Sorry for getting a bit off topic.

And Taeylor, in 1962 there was Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale in The Avengers, and Diana Rigg as Emma Peel in 1965.

I seem never to have come right out and named mine.  I had a sort of crush on T Crawford as Beth as a kid, but now it's Marie Wallace as Megan Todd, and to a lesser degree, Eve.   Jenny was her best character, but that's not what we're talking about here...

I found self semi-ogling Maggie's knees at the start of Laura storyline #1.   That's a new one for me, knee-ogling.  It lasted mere seconds, then the camera panned up so as not to show said knees, apparently.
