DS And The CW's 'The 100'
« on: March 20, 2014, 03:29:44 AM »
It may be one of the slimmest connections we've seen between DS and another show, but there is a connection between DS and the new CW series The 100 because Kelly Hu (who portrayed Julia in the '04 WB DS pilot) and Thomas McDonell (who shot his part as teenage Barnabas for the Depp/DS film but was left on the cutting room floor) are regulars on the show.

(It is interesting that the Depp/DS film is still listed in McDonell's credits on the IMDb. But then The Big Chill is still listed in Kevin Costner's credits even though his part in that film suffered the same cutting room floor fate.)

From a report on last night's Fast Nationals:

The premiere of "The 100" Wednesday gave The CW its biggest total audience in its timeslot in more than three years, and it also became the first show to build on an "Arrow" lead-in among total viewers.

I'm sure it's all because of Kelly Hu and Thomas McDonell!!  [nodassent]

But seriously, almost every show does well for its premiere because people tune in to see what it's like. It's how the show performs in subsequent weeks that more important...

I had forgotten all about Thomas McDonald...

definitely one of the odder things to come out of the Depp film. it was so weird how he ended up being cut and this third, even younger Barnabas, sort of came out of the woodwork right before the film's release. incidentally if there was supposed to be a "teenage Barnabas" at some point I wonder if there was supposed to have been a "teenage Angelique" or a "teenage Josette" for him to play off of? we certainly never heard about that piece of casting?

At least Thomas McDonell has lucked out with something: The 100 has been renewed for a second season by the CW.

CW orders 'The Flash,' 'iZombie,' more and renews 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'The 100' and 'Hart of Dixie'

Well, apparently that was then, but this is now, and I see where the show killed off McDonell's character:

5 times 'The 100' made the bold choice in Season 2, from Clexa to killing Finn
