Current Talk '24 I / Re: Depp/Burton DARK SHADOWS Is In Release!!
« on: October 31, 2012, 05:03:02 PM »
I just returned from a trip to Seattle.  We flew JetBlue and Depp Shadows was on offer as one of the in-flight films.  I missed seeing it both going out and returning, however, for various reasons, although my companion did watch it going out.  She asked me a bunch of questions about the movie story vis a vis the original series (which she has never seen--however, she is a huge Buffy fan).

The other films on offer included Madagascar 3, The Amazing Spiderman, and I think something by Wes Anderson (but don't quote me).

I did see a number of people playing the movie on the flight out.  It was a little surprising to look up from my book and see the face of BarnaDepp looming out from various nearby screens!

That would be extremely kind of someone.  Someone who has fed Gothique's desire to drool and pander to the glories of the male physique in the past.  Someone who always takes Gothique's tacky remarks about nipples, shoulder blades and other ... appendages with sterling good humor.  Someone who has a kind, generous, giving heart.

A friend who has been watching this faithfully reported last week that the episode began with a scene of JLM with his shirt off and she said that the sight was a fine ravishment for the eyes (I am paraphrasing).

I realize that nobody here watches television to gratify their lustful urges for male pulchritude--apart from myself, of course--so I am simply reporting this as a "by the way" bit of factoidiana.

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / Cher at Greystone
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:09:32 AM »
Tonight on my way home I read in Billy Masters' weekly gossip column that Cher is giving a concert at Greystone in honor of the 50th birthday of Elton John's husband, David Furnish.  The concert is going to be a private invitation only party, or so the report implied.

I do wonder if there will be a DS theme, although since the Eltons are English, I doubt whether they know anything about the series.

Another of my favorite Thayer David shots from NoDS today (and one of his juiciest lines, too).

Thanks so much for all of these, MB.  Although there has been no announcement, I presume that the hoDS/NoDS series will be retired, now that the Blu Ray releases are about to hit the streets.  I presume you'll be replacing this series with a Depp Shadows series next year, although that's just my educated guess.  You know how wildly imaginative I can be.

cheers, Gothique

How absolutely awful!  Poor Marie!  She's such a sweetheart, and a real trooper.

Sending healing prayers for her swift and smooth recovery.

I have heard that the event will be occurring at various theatres all over the US.

I don't think they were using 35 mm film in the early 1930s, but I'm no expert.  I wouldn't be surprised if these will be projected from a digital source (aren't most theatres using a form of DVD now? I just read an article on the death of the film projector and it made me cry).  Universal just "restored" the films using computer technology and the "restoration" has been controversial since in some cases it seems that some images were actually altered from how the director intended them to appear.  The "restored" versions have been released on "Blu Ray." No idea if DVD releases will follow or accompany.  It's been a frantic autumn here so I see headlines and vague snatches of discussions but haven't had time to sit down and get the story clear in my mind.

Wow.  Thanks for the tip, Uncle Roger and Barnabas Jr!  I'll take any opportunity to admire Barbara's acting talent... and/or Joel's legs...

DarkLady darling, that link is fabulous!  but readers need to be warned to put on their sunglasses before clicking!  lol!

I'll never forget this moment circa 1969 when I went over to a friend's house and his Mom drove up in her new sportscar (the family, by the standards of our neighborhood, were very wealthy).  The color had been described as "sub-lime" (*rolls eyes*) and was a kind of acid neon chartreuse.  It was like the apotheosis of Sixties lime green.  I wish I could report that she emerged from the vehicle wearing a sleeveless limegreen summer-dress but alas memory fails at that moment.

I am just now noticing at the bottom of the "page" (I really don't know what else to call it). there are four links that read, respectively, "Home," "Button One," "Button Two," "Button Three."

I'm sure the significance of these was explained somewhere, but I missed it.

Do I dare to click any of them?  What if one activates the dreaded "Forty Ninth Hexagram" application and I suddenly find myself in 1795 having tea with Reverend Trask????

just ... plain ... SCARED,

For anyone who cares, NBC is airing the latest failed attempt at a Munsters remake sometime around Halloween.  Eddie Izzard plays Grandpa and has some wonderful clothes, as does the actress who plays Marilyn.  The rest of it... blech, judging from the stills and the trailers.  but of course, some may ADORE every moment...

Hey dom, I'm pretty sure the DVD has the episode in color, unless I'm hallucinating (I guess it's been a few weeks, and they've been rough weeks--I lost my beloved kitty last Thurs.).  It might have been a case where the color print was recovered after the work on the VHS release.  I remember Grayson looked really fabulous in it.

That's a cool idea that it was Josette's ghost intervening, but the tiresome flute cue leaves little doubt that the writers, at least, intended us to agree with Barn that it was Sarah.

Glad my little witticisms help keep you smiling, Onyx.

Wow. that was long ago and far away.  but I still remember what a hoot Al Lewis was in that one.
