Title: Mad Men meets DS?
Post by: Midnite on April 14, 2012, 03:53:19 PM
According to an IMDB entry, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2049175/) the May 13 ep of Mad Men will be titled "Dark Shadows."

Some speculation about its content on Forbes.com:  "Mad Men" Spoiler: Are Vampires Coming to Sterling Cooper? (http://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfriedman/2012/04/14/mad-men-spoiler-are-vampires-coming-to-sterling-cooper/)

First a David Selby guest role, then a movie spot, and now this (?)-- how exciting!  Thanks, Julia99.

Love the speculation. If only it was November 1967 on Mad Men and not 1966 - then it really might have tied into the DS vampire angle.  [easter_wink]

That's amazing, midnite! I had been thinking about posting something a couple of weeks ago about '60s nostalgia and "Mad Men" after Newsweek did a cover story on just that topic. Even the ads in the magazine were done to resemble advertising from that era. At the same time, I had come across an article online about a history grad student who had analyzed the use of language on "Mad Men" and found that there is a lot of terminology being used on the show that was not used in the '60s and '70s. Apparently the writers are too young to realize that.

I've always thought that there was a high level of language on DS, that the writers were very literate.

Anyway, it's fun to learn that "Mad Men" may be making a "DS" connection - even if they're only alluding to it through the title an episode.

I haven't actually seen much of the show.

I just watched the most recent Mad Men episode, and much of it centered around Jon Hamm's pre-teen daughter, Sally - who was lounging around the house watching television in the summer of '66 - much to her babysitter's consternation. If Sally becomes a "DS" fan in the coming months, I hope the producers stay true to the original timeline, and don't use a clip of Barnabas Collins on the tube in 1966 - but rather have Sally engrossed in "The Pen" storyline (I'm laughing right now imagining MB reading this), as was the current storyline in November '66.

But of course, Sandor, we privileged few here on this Board are aware that "the Pen" storyline WAS the highpoint of DS!  Barnabas who?

Exactly! And no one should ever forget it.  [ghost_wink]

Barnabas who?

He could never surpass the PEN!  [ghost_nowink]

MB nods gratefully.  [ghost_smiley]

But then one wonders about the bleeder valve storyline...

That one's probably a close second.  [ghost_wink]

As of last night they are in August of 1966 meaning they have already progressed around 3 mounts since the season premiere around memorial day. Maybe by the time they get through the next three episodes before it will be March 1967.

I called this five days ago! Wonder if/how it uses the show.

Anyone else notice the similarities?

Is actor John Hamm's character on that show, "Mad Men's" own "answer" to "Dark Shadows'" own irrepressible character, Schuyler "Sky" Rumson?
