Thanks Phil- I have only had a chance to skim it briefly here at work, but it's a good read and I have saved the link to read again later.  I love the HODS/NODS posters, as well.  Taeylor, thanks for the mention of your FB page.  I belong to/am lurking on two- one hates the lovers/excusers of the trailer, and one hates the haters, and frankly I'm a little fed up with both camps  [snow_smiley]  I just want to hear people's opinions without feeling like they're trying to force my own- I want to make up my own mind in my own way!

By the way, a bit off topic and there is probably a separate thread for this, but I just got a notice from Amazon saying that my Return To Collinwood will ship a little sooner after all- good news!

Thanks so much for sharing the Once Upon A Time trailer and screencaps, MB!  It's great to see more of Alice!

I did see 21 Jump Street today, and the DS trailer did show in front of it.  I started to think we wouldn't get it because I believe it was the last one shown.  I was at a Regal Cinema.

Cousin, thanks for the link to Graeme-Smith's article.  Once again, my reaction is different than Richard's in that I'm encouraged that there will be more to the film than a black/white extreme of a parody.  But that's just me- I am not sold on the film but am still open to it.

Thanks borgosi!  So, they describe it as Elfman's score (I do wonder, though, if at least Alice Cooper's part will be included in the soundtrack).  I'm still not sure I agree with the "discount" description, though- that's a pretty standard non-sale price! ;)

I add my thanks to the mods for keeping things sane here  [snow_cool]   Some of the other sites have gone nuts, and while I'm just a lurker in most of the other places I'm treading lightly. And I'm not even in one camp or the other!

borgosi, do you recall where you saw the soundtrack preorder info?  I have been looking on Amazon and haven't seen anything yet (unless I'm searching wrong).  I don't necessarily want to preorder it- like you, I'd like to at least hear samples first, which can usually be done before a CD is released, but I am curious as to what will be on it (ie., Alice Cooper, T-Rex, Barry White?  Or is it just Elfman's score?)

Edited to add- oh, maybe this is it- I searched music only instead of all departments, and sorted by release date:
Amazon - Dark Shadows Soundtrack

Though the description is pretty vague so far and doesn't even confirm it's the film soundtrack, and the price isn't really what I'd call a discount but I'm a cheapskate!  [snow_cheesy]  But I imagine the price will drop by the release date, as often happens.  I'll keep an eye out!

Given what ShadowGram has reported, that's very interesting, jimbo. I wonder if the DS trailer is actually only playing with 21 Jump Street in certain movie theater chains?

Yes, this isn't too surprising, unfortunately.  Not every theater shows the exact same trailers before the same movies, though they usually show many of the same ones.  I checked on a movie buff site this morning (this site has a "crowd reports" section where they say how full the theater was and what trailers played) and only 2 of the 5 who saw 21 Jump Street saw the DS trailer (but one of them arrived late and only saw part of the last trailer, so it may have played at that theater).  So it did show before some screenings but not all.  I may be going to see it tomorrow so I'll report back here whether I see the trailer or not.

As for 21 JS fandom, I think it is a little different because most folks realize that the show is a bit dated and that even at the time, it was a little, well, earnest.  Also, most are also Depp fans.  Most people I know were just indifferent about the movie until it started getting such great reviews, and now there is some interest in it.  A small clip of part of Johnny's (and Peter DeLuise's) cameo was leaked a week or two ago, and I have to admit, it was not what I was expecting!  So yeah, that is adding to my interest in seeing the film.  But if the film had gotten terrible reviews, I think that most people would've just ignored the film.

Let's face facts, if they say trailers don't work they would end up without a show. These shows are made to promote movies. It's extremely rare, if ever, that they say a trailer or movie doesn't work.

Hi borgosi, I am not sure if you're responding to my post about positive reaction to the trailer, or to something else.  But if it is to my post, let me clarify that I was not referring to a movie site that is related to a TV show or anything other entertainment industry.  And it isn't even particularly focused on trailers per se.  It is a fan site where movie buffs discuss films, awards potential, box office potential, etc.  And these are folks who can be very critical and are not shy about dissing what they don't like (and indeed, a few of the posts thought the DS trailer looked awful, but those posts were the exception rather than the rule.  Overall, the response was a lot more positive than I was expecting). For me, it's sometimes interesting to read sites like this because they offer a different perspective than DS/Depp fan sites where we naturally have a bit of a bias.

Edited to add- sorry, I re-read those few posts and realized you were probably speaking to MB.  But at any rate, I did just want to clarify my own post.

What's funny is that I was reading a movie site (with no particular loyalty to DS, Burton *or* Depp) this morning, and the vast majority seem to think the trailer looks great.  This even included some who haven't liked some of Burton's recent efforts.  So maybe the marketers or whoever is behind this actually succeeded more than we think they did at making a trailer for the masses.  Of course, in Depp and DS forums, I am still seeing responses all over the map.  I haven't had a chance to watch the trailer at all today, but I am still feeling somewhere in the middle about it, probably liking it more than most DS fans and less than most Depp fans.

You're the First, My Last, My Everything is a beautiful song. Tim Burton should have done his research. Barry White didn't record it until 1974. Also, the disco ball? That too is a little early.

I was wondering about the disco ball, too, because I don't remember them in 1972 (but then again, I wasn't old enough to go to clubs at that time  [snow_wink] ).  But I looked it up on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_ball

As for the Barry White song (and other music), just a thought but sometimes trailer music is different than what's in the film.  I agree it shouldn't be used if it's not appropriate to the year, though.

I don't think he pulls the plug out - I think he just pulls the back off.  [snow_cheesy]

Ah, okay then, that makes more sense, thanks! (egg on my face  [snow_blush]  )

Thanks so much for sharing your screen caps, Sara monster!  They are wonderful.

My biggest complaint about the trailer right now is that when Barnabas pulls the plug on the TV, Karen Carpenter still seems to be on the screen?!    [snow_tongue]

It is interesting to see everyone's various reactions to the trailer.  Some don't like the humor, and some don't find it funny *enough* (I guess in terms of, if it's going to be a comedy, it might as well be funnier).  I really would rather see a higher quality version before I make a final opinion, but I am falling more in line with MB's and Nancy's opinion.  I may not like it quite as much as Nancy, but my reaction was more or less relief, after hearing the feedback from the screening.

I like humor, and I am fine with most of the humor that was displayed in the trailer.  Maybe one or two things seem over the top/silly, but that happens sometimes, when I see a film where I like 99% of the lines but roll my eyes at a few and wish they were cut. But to me, the tone is more of what I wanted (ie., Sleepy Hollow/Sweeney Todd) where there are some laughs but it doesn't seem like it's going to be ha ha laugh-track funny at every moment.  I feel that there will be enough thrills and chills to satisfy me- at least I hope there will!

As for Barnabas' line "I'm a vampire, madam."  As a few have pointed out, here, we don't really know who he is saying this to.  Maybe the whole family does know.  Or maybe he's just talking to Angelique.  (Or Dr. Hoffman).  Just a thought.

I'm still not as happy as I was a couple of days ago when we saw the first few seconds on Ellen's preview, but I'm happier than yesterday.  I do understand and sympathize with those who are disappointed.

Oh, edited to add, I meant to say that the music in the trailer may not necessarily reflect what's in the film.

Well, the sound is awful, and I'm sure a better version will be available soon, but here you go!

Beyond the absolutely stunning look of the photos, one thing that I found interesting is that it looks as if Angelique had dark hair in 1772. Apparently she's a peroxide blonde in 1972.  [snow_cheesy]  And sort of the opposite of the whole Angelique/Cassandra twist of the original show.

Yeah, I noticed that and think it's appropriate, because I seem to recall bottle blondes being quite popular at that time   [snow_tongue]  And just from the photos, which may darker than what we'll see, Bella's hair seems a little darker than I thought it'd be, too.

Anyway, I've just checked around and don't see any sign of the trailer yet-- has anyone caught it on Ellen, yet??

315
MB, you did more research than me, but I was thinking the same thing.  I checked my own listings, and Ellen airs at 3 where I am, and even though I can't watch it, I was thinking that the show must be on in the morning in some areas, and that once it airs, it'll probably be all over the net!  So, I'll be checking around this morning
