For what it's worth, DS is actually *gaining* some theaters this coming week.  It'll go up to 365 theaters, which is 63 more than this week, according to Box Office Mojo:

http://boxofficemojo.com/counts/chart/?yr=2012&wk=26&p=.htm

(So I guess it had 302 this week).  I imagine that most or all of these additions are discount theaters, which won't bring in as much $, but at least will keep the film out there for those who still wish to see it  [ghost_smiley]

Also, DS made less Wed. than the other weekdays this week, at only $29,644, which brings the domestic total to $75,854,750.  (Come on, $76 million! We can do it!  [ghost_wink] )

I don't think we have any $1 theaters in the DC area, either.  The one cheapy theater that is playing DS this week (and I'm relieved to see that it will also show there next week), I think I recall costing $2.50 or $3 the last time I was there.  So "cheap" is relative, I guess  [ghost_grin]  Now that I know it's been extended there one more week, I may try to get there this weekend for what would be my 4th time.  Not certain that I'll make it, though.

Enjoy the Castro, David-Elijah!

I've been on vacation for the past week and didn't have too much time online, but it was great to check in here and keep up to date with all the latest news and box office, so thanks to all for all the updates!

Boxoffice.com now has the box office actuals through yesterday- I'm too lazy to add up the weekend results but it looks like DS made about $260K, and the domestic total is now $75,753,107.  (Edited to add- crossposted with you, MB- thanks for the exact total- I was close!)  They have the worldwide total at $219,353,107.  I was sad to return home to see it playing in only one theater in the whole DC region this week; it's a discount theater and I doubt I'll make it there this week at all, and I don't know if they'll keep it next week.  I'm glad I did get to see it 3x in theaters, but I'd be up for one more time if I can.

I actually quite liked the book, but I suppose for full disclosure I'd better admit that I read it while on a particularly fun and pampered vacation (a rare treat for me!) so I was in a pretty good mood that whole week, lol.  However, the reviews for the film were quite weak (more negative than DS's reviews) which disappointed me.  Maybe Seth has good story ideas but just hasn't yet learned to translate them to film  [ghost_sad]  Well, I will surely see this at some point, but perhaps on DVD.  Thanks for your feedback, usffan!

Dippity-Do!  Now there's a blast from the past!  When did they stop making it?  I can just picture Barnabas trying it.

There is/was also an alternative product  [ghost_wink]  A few years ago, on a promotional stop in Japan, someone presented Johnny with a gift- let's see if I can attach this photo (didn't work the first time)...

but hopefully it can make an even $75 within the next week  [ghost_smiley]

I think you mean $75 million within the next week. (Let's hope it makes much more than $75 during the week!!)   [ghost_wink]

Sorry, was lazy and attempting shorthand  [ghost_wink]

DS held onto 11th place yesterday, making $178,359 for a domestic total of $74,532,628.  I'm guessing the numbers are going to drop a lot next week due to the loss in theaters, but hopefully it can make an even $75 within the next week  [ghost_smiley]

DS took a much bigger hit in my area this week  [ghost_sad]  The one theater that still played it 4 times daily this past week will now only have one late showing (~10:30 p.m.), and it's gone from most others.  It's still playing in one IMAX in downtown DC through the 21st, and two places a bit further from me.

As usual, DS's box office take went up on Tues., this week by an impressive 14%.  It made $206,145, bringing the domestic total to $74,173,028.

DS did a bit better than expected this past weekend, bringing in $1.41 million (over the $1.36 million estimate), according to boxoffice.com.  The domestic total is now $73,785,840.  It has less than $100k to go to catch Hugo!  [ghost_smiley]

Box Office Mojo has updated its foreign numbers, and DS is now showing $130 million overseas.  More importantly, this means that DS has now passed $200 million worldwide!   [ghost_smiley]  The estimate is currently $203,736,000, but of course that may change slightly when the domestic actuals for this weekend come in tomorrow afternoon.

I did my part, seeing DS for my 3rd time today.  Bad news was, the theater was quite empty, compared to last week.  But on the bright side, the showing was before noon, and I just don't think that many folks go to the movies that early in the day (this was the only showing of the day at this particular theater).

Thanks MB!  Great to see that it went up from Wed.  On Box Office Mojo, it looks like all the numbers are in now, and not only did it do better than Chernobyl Diaries but it did by quite a bit, and is indeed in 8th place for Thurs.

Glad to hear that DS is likely to pass John Carter, though I see that JC did do over $200M overseas so DS is very unlikely to pass JC worldwide.  Another milestone that is within DS's grasp is to pass Hugo, which as MB pointed out the other day is Chloe Moretz' best box office so far (except for a voice part in Bolt), but it's also currently Johnny's biggest movie as a producer.  Hugo made $73.9M domestically so DS has another ~$1.5M to go to reach it. I didn't even realize until checking it that DS has actually already passed Hugo worldwide ($192.9M vs. $182.6M).  (I adored Hugo, by the way, but it just wasn't as big a box office hit as it deserved to be).

One slight correction, though - DS went back up to 8th place after being in 9th for two days.  [ghost_smiley]

Wednesday Box Office

Oops, my bad, somehow I forgot that it had dipped to 9th at all.  Well, all the better that it moved up!  [ghost_smiley]  Let's hope that it keeps 8th place today, as tomorrow, I'm afraid it'll be dipping out of the Top Ten (I want to see Prometheus, myself!)

DS made $401,114 on Wednesday, to retain its 8th place spot. The domestic total is now $71,944,348.

However, as feared, it will take a huge hit on Friday in terms of theater counts, losing 1,452 theaters and keeping only 1,550.  This is at least partly to make room for Madagascar 3 and Prometheus, both of which are in wide release.

You can find the Wed. box office and theater counts on
