And, if DC had gotten his way, Dr. Hoffman might have been on borrowed time.

(That's very true! Though if DC had tried it once Julia caught on with the audience, can you just imagine the fan revolt?! She would have been back sooner than DC could have said "All we killed off was an Angelique created doppelganger!!"  [ghost_grin])

I read an article somewhere with Sam Hall that mentioned that towards the end of the series there was some serious discussion about killing Julia off, which would have allowed them some new material to work with. I don't remember who shot the idea down but the reasoning was that it would have alienated an enormous part of the fan base.

([pointing-up]  Yeah, Sam made those comments in his DS Files interview. If they'd done it, could you imagine the HUGE fan outcry??!!)

Would they have really considered killing off one of the program's biggest assets? Julia proved to be so popular that she was added to not one but three of the time travel stories. But by the time that he gave that interview, Sam was well into his curmudgeon phase.
And whoever made the decision not to kill off Julia was certainly correct.

(They didn't actually intended to leave Barnabas staked in 1897, did they?  The implication here is that Ang's doppelganger was a hasty, improvised  about face...)

No, that was to give Frid some much needed time off. He took a working vacation and appeared in a production of Dial M For Murder in Sullivan, Illinois.
