« on: November 20, 2005, 02:06:08 PM »
Hi,  :)
I just was flipping through the guide and saw a movie that is scheduled for 10:00 am Eastern time today (Sunday November 20th) on TCM. The movie is called Vogues of 1938 with Joan Bennet listed as one of the stars.

Joan is blond in this one and she is after the married male lead!  Not much of a plot

I was going to post this.

Okay, this is the FIRST Joan Bennett lead actress movie I've ever seen :o There's a scene early in picture where beautiful Joan is wearing a dress which is periwinkle with a hue of gray. OMG, stunning!! It was odd seeing her as a blonde; I prefer her as a brunette. 'For pictures made in 1937' she was great (I believe direction and scripts were much more subdued/2 dimensional back then).

It was so nice seeing our Joannie!!

I liked this movie because it is one of the few color movies that Joan Bennett made. It was not until later in her career that she was in color films such as House of Dark Shadows, Suspiria, ect. I am not absolutley certain that this is the only early color film she made but all of her films from the 30s-50s that I have seen were in B/W.

Some of my other favorite Joan Bennett movies are Woman in the Window, Scarlett Street and Secret Beyond the door.

We're No Angels has just been released on DVD, and it's in Technicolor from Paramount in 1955 with Humphrey Bogart.    Joan actually sings a duet with Leo G. Carroll in this one.  Prior to the 60s, Joan did few color films- Nob Hill from 1945 with George Raft is one, a period musical from 20th Century-Fox, and I believe she sings in it, too.  Unfortunately, it's not on DVD.

I thought she looked stunning.  The clothes of that era were also fabulous.  I also have a soft spot for the music of that time period.  The movie itself was o.k.  Those other aspects made it enjoyable for me.
