The Associated Press and
Variety recently reported that the Motion Picture Association of America had to arbitrate a dispute between Dreamworks SKG and Revolution Studios over the titles of their upcoming Christmas films.
Surviving Christimas starring Ben Affleck and Christina Applegate, which includes an appearance by David Selby, was originally filmed in early 2003. The release date was delayed due to an agreement between film studios that would prevent two of Affleck's films from competing with each other in theaters. Therefore, we got
Paycheck this past holiday instead of
Surviving Christmas, which will be released this coming November.
Revolution Studios plans to release a film based on the John Grisham novel
Skipping Christmas this year.
Because of the similar titles and because
Surviving Christmas is already in the can, the MPAA determined that
Skipping Christmas has to be retitled
Christmas with the Kranks, after the name of the family that is the film's focus.
There . . . more info than anyone could ever possibly want or need.
