Green really impressed me in her work in the preview episode of Camelot that was (and maybe still is) available for streaming on the Starz website.  There's a scene in there where Green's character, who is just starting to come into a sense of her own power, has to compound a poison and the force with which she slams the pestle into the mortar... it did make me think she would be fascinating, and very dangerous, in the role of Our Favorite Witch.

If you think of her describing Angelique in Leviathans and the counterpart PT 1970 character, Green's comments could actually be related to episodes of our series--just probably ones she did not see when looking at "clips on the internet" which may have included footage of Ange in the 18th and 19th centuries.

I am actually starting to feel intrigued by this.  I still don't know about Depp's casting--but I do feel that Green has what it takes.  Now it remains to be seen whether Burton will feel compelled to goof it all up with his usual zany sense of overly crazy aesthetics and whether Elfman will compose his usual dippy phoned-in rubbish for the score.  I guess time will tell.

Fascinating.  But it only looks a little more like David Selby than do the Gold Key comics drawings of Quentin...

A memorable sight for us Grayson fans--an actual capture of Constance Collins with Brutus!  Great shot!

It was interesting to see images from one of Laura's final episodes.  Somehow, I thought the storyline wrapped in early March... I must be thinking of the taping dates rather than the air dates...

I just love the daily Robservations slideshow!  And in the hoDS show, I have really been enjoying all the lovely captures from the Stokes and Julia scene.  I wonder whether there will be a capture of their two shot from the family dinner after the funeral?  I love what they're both wearing in that scene--they both look so very elegant.

Thanks, G.

Congratulations, Penny!

Thanks so much, MB, for this selection.  I love the contrast between Laura's smugness and Mrs J's "who the hell died and made HER Queen?" annoyance.

The scene where Chris breaks up with Carolyn is heartbreaking indeed.

And what a memorable moment--Naomi gives Joshua a piece of her mind before going off to the courthouse to testify for Vicki.

Just love Laura's expression in her big face-off with Guthrie.  How does the dialogue go; something like--

Guthrie:  I know now that you ARE ... the Un-dead!

Laura (coolly and cooingly):  And what if I AM?

Great, nail-biting suspense in that scene.  Love the episode cliffhanger, too.

And in PT 1841, did Barrett and Karlen make an utterly adorable couple, or what?

Today's scene from hoDS provides one of the few moments where the feature film actually evokes the mood of the original.  Candles flare before Josette's musty portrait, her music box plays on the soundtrack counterpointed by Frid's melancholic, richly upholstered tones; the dialogue speaks of eternal love, eternal life.  And only seconds the later the scene shifts to a moment of hysterical, brutal, pointlessly provoked carnage.  It's definitely a moment that pinpoints why so many veteran fans were so disappointed in the movie.

I just love, love, love that Nicholas and Angelique reunion scene in Leviathans.  It is a highlight of the entire sequence, and I would even venture to list it as a highlight of the entire period from the end of the Petofi mind switch disaster to the conclusion of the series, period.

Nicholas is just so deliciously catty.  Of course, Angelique gets her own back in a later scene with Sky ... heh heh ...

I do love that snap of Miz Laura doin' her thang at that big-ass Seance (sorry, it's Mardi Gras and I'm channelling some withered old Queen who haunts the French Quarter) in the Big House.  Big!

But even more do I love the capture of Laura glaring insanely with teeth bared the time Liz interrupted Herself in one of her cozy fireplace moments (I think she was trying to hex someone--maybe Sam?).

The latter occasionally surfaces as a floaty here.  It's memorable.

MSC, I agree that Laura is less effective when she's just one occult element in a whole crazy late Victoriana hullaballo of freaks that is the glory of 1897.  But I do cherish her return in that storyline because we get the unforgettable joy of her one on one scenes with Quentin (just love the one in the cottage when Q is lying there to all appearances in his death-agony and Laura is purring and cooing with cold, savory malice), Edward, Magda, Minerva, Trask, et al.  Diana Millay was always so beautifully focused--even lethally so--in these scenes, and she seemed to bring the series up to a higher level when she was on board.

How sad.  But strangely fitting for a DS fan's funeral to be held Halloween weekend.

May she rest in peace.

Looks as if I missed the climax of the Laura '67 storyline.  Some of DS' most beautifully staged scenes.

I love that shot of Julia's reaction at the sight of Jeb in his true form, and the great two-shot from their conversation that follows. Interesting how while Julia does let out a good old fashioned blood-curdling shriek at the sight of the Leviathan Creature, unlike others who have confronted it she snaps right back to sanity.  Perhaps that's because of her "special genetic structure" that also makes her immune from the wiles of the "Leviathan box trick."

Great stuff!  Love the shots of Barn administering justice to Trask in 1796, too!  And for the Quentin fans, there are some very juicy shots of him in all his Victorian splendor tonight.

I received my copy of the magazine today.  The painting of Barbara Steele on the cover looks rather nicer than the scan of it would suggest, I thought.  The article about her consists of a page and a half of screen captures from two recent DVD film releases, An Angel for Satan (1966) and The Maniacs (1964); the latter is particularly interesting because it was a non-horror film and features Barbara in two comedic roles (the movie was in the popular anthology format we enjoyed so much in the 1960s).

The feature on the Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism was beautifully done, and there were articles on Paul Naschy's last werewolf movie, and one of the actors from an early Naschy film, Werewolf Shadow.

Thanks, MB.  Again, I really wish the costume party sequence had been the length originally planned!  Ah well...
