Question
« on: May 08, 2005, 08:11:40 PM »
Do The MPI people have plans to release all the original episodes (pre-barnabas) after they are finished issuing the rest of the series? I feel robbed from the complete story line without the original episodes lol. I'm weird like that, I really have to watch a series in complete order, but they haven't allowed me to do this. Anyway, Im sure this has been asked many times and I'm sorry if its become annoying. I was just wondering.

Also, I didn't see an area where things like this can be asked...so I just chose this cause it seemed the most appropriate out of the sub-forums provided.

Welcome to the forum, AMKR! Yes, your question has been asked before - but you're a newbie here so we can easily forgive you asking it again.  [wink2]  And you picked the perfect board to post it.  :)

As for the answer, MPI has said that they plan to release episodes #1-#209 on DVD after they've released episodes #210-#1245.

For future reference, if you'd ever like to check to see it something has been talked about, try using the search feature (the forum's best kept secret  ;)). An explanation of how to use it can be found here. But if you have any questions about the feature, please feel free to post them in Testing. 1, 2, 3... and one of the admins/mods will try to answer you as best we can.

In the meantime, have fun posting...

the pre-barnabas episodes are available from mpi in video format.they are called the "collector's series" and begin with the first episode and progress until the barnabas episodes begin.then they become the "original series" for the rest of the show's run.go figure.

this is assuming mpi hasn't discontinued these volumes.

mpi told me that they will release these episodes on dvd after they finish releasing the rest of the run.time will tell.

Another question (this time I used the search and I could not find a thread on it). Does anyone know if MPI plans on releaseing the Dark Shadows Remake from 1991 on DVD after all the original Dark Shadows are done with? I'm just curious to know if they were any good or if they were garbage. There seems to be a mixed opinion.

I thought the '91 series was ok, but not as good as the original IMO.  It was really slick and LOOKED fantastic, but I thought Ben Cross was so-so as Barnabas.  He didn't seem to capture the essence of what makes Barnabas special.  The new show had pros and cons, but it is definitely worth seeing.  It's on video.  I have no idea if MPI plans on releasing DVDs of the revival series.

No, MPI doesn't plan to put the 1991 series on DVD. In fact, the videos are being sold at a discount now, so if you want them it would be best to get them now.

victoriawinters mentioned more information about this in one of her previous messages, but it wasn't the title of the topic, so it probably didn't show up in the search.  However, you might try searching by cousin to find the original message.  :)

If one searches by simply using "91 DVD" (without the quotes) as the criteria, victoriawinters' topic is actually the first result to come up. But here's a link to it:

I recently received a confirmation e-mail from MPI Customer Service.  ...

MPI no longer has any rights to the 91 series. They had a limited license from MGM.

It'd be up to MGM (now part of the Sony company) to release it. There was mild interest before the merge, but it's not on the schedule and the entire release schedule MGM put together for late this year and early next may be totally overhauled at Sony's behest...
