Quick question--was THRUSH an overtly communist organization on the show? or just a bunch of badie-evil doers bent on world domination?

That one.  THRUSH wasn't tied to any country or ideology.  It was simply the complete opposite of U.N.C.L.E.  So as the latter stood for order and peace, the former stood for power, greed and chaos.
