Quentin's trip to Egypt
« on: November 08, 2002, 04:06:44 AM »
Today Quentin told Jamison that he had been in Egypt before returning home. Alexandria. That would have been an interesting storyline had the writers chosen to pursue it. Alot of what-ifs--What if Quentin had brought back a mummy? I would have liked this better than another werewolf story. Maybe he did bring back some souveniers and I just haven't seen that part yet. Hey there!....i  Agree that an egyptian/mummy storyline would have been great on DS.I'm just wondering where they could have gone with the idea.Maybe you and I could team up to write a fan fic story about it.:)

That does sound interesting but the only problem with not having another werewolf story would be that they wouldn't be able to show the connection between Chris Jennings & Quentin.

Having a Mummy on the show would be something to see though!  I mean they've had just about every other kind of monster/vampire/witch element on the show so why not bring a Mummy on also?

One of the comic books in the Dark Shadows series actually did have a mummy story.  Barnabas Collins had to battle a walking bandage when it somehow found its way to Collinsport.

Thanks, Adra but I don't have the talent or desire to write fanfiction. However, I like to read it! So if you come up with a story I'd love to read it.[coolb]

The follow up story to 1898 was to one about a mummy, but Dc thought it wasn't a good idea as all a mummy does it drag its foot.  So, he went with Leviathan instead.

I've never seen the Leviathan storyline.

In my dictionary, a Leviathan is a monstrous sea creature or a large ship.

Somehow, I don't think Dan Curtis went for the expense of special effects to create either of those things.

So someone tell me please....what exactly WAS the Leviathan in that story line? [hdscrt]

Had they chosen to pursue it I would be saddled with the most unfortunate image of Quentin Collins does Norma Desmond til my dying day.

I don't wanna spoil it too much for you, Rainey, so I'll just say that the storyline was based on HP Lovecraft's Cthulu tales.  Now, so I don't give away anything more that would wreck it for you, I'll leave it at that, so if you wanna find out what the heck Lovecraft's Cthulu tales were all about, just do a search on the internet and that should fill ya in (unless, of course, you already know what they're all about).

Okay, so first it was Bram Stoker, then it was Mary Shelley, now it's one of the Bronte sisters (never could keep them straight) and then on to H.P. Lovecraft.  Oh, and let's not forget eventually it will be Shirley Jackson and "The Lottery".

Did Dan Curtis ever use a completely original idea in the entire course of the Dark Shadows series? ::)

In a rare show of restraint from the special effects people, we never actually SEE one in its native form. :)

Cheers,

One of the reasons that I appreciate the 1967 phoenix storyline so much is that it seemed original.  Aside from the original myth, I can't recall any stories that rely on such a creature, nor have I ever seen any literary sources quoted as the inspiration for that plot.
