Does anyone remember the Ghost Story tv series that aired on NBC circa 1972? I vaguely remember an episode with Hal Linden playing a vampire.
-
Wasn't that the one where each episode was introduced by Sebastian Cabot? I don't remember that episode, but I do remember the series. I have heard that it circulates on the "grey market." You could try Youtube...

Yes, that's the same one. I just looked on IMDB and the episode is titled, Elegy for a Vampire. I just wish I could remember more about this particular episode.

I remember this series well, and as a matter of fact, have it around here somewhere on bootleg DVD that I purchased from someone in England, of all places. [hall_cool]

The pilot, or a good chunk of it, is here:

Love Sebastian Cabot's opening monologue. This one has impressive credentials; cast includes Barbara Parkins, Sam Jaffe, and the legendary Jeanette Nolan; script is by Richard Matheson, directed by John Llewelyn Moxey... and the series exec producer was William Castle.
Fun stuff!

There's an 8 film William Castle box set that has two complete episodes of this series: I'd love to see a DVD release for the whole series, or maybe ME TV can run it.

Wow, Barnabas Jr, this is excellent! I love the little opening monologues by Sebastian Cabot... we don't see acting of this flair and calibre very much anymore...
Happy New Year!

I've been away from youtube for too long, I came across the Ghost Story links when I discovered the scariest movie of my childhood, "The Screaming Woman." Scarier when I was 9, but good stuff.
-
Yeah, I remember this quite vividly. Loved Barbara Parkins, who had become quite the scream queen back then. NBC gave Sebastian Cabot the boot at midseason and changed the title to Circle of Fear. That was meant to change the focus of the show to other supernatural elements besides ghosts. First story under the new format co-starred Janet Leigh and a death head's moth. [8_2_76]

I finished watching it tonight, and I thought the opening segment with Sebastian Cabot was the best part by far. But it was interesting and fun to see.
Thanks again for posting the link!

Great show! I used to enjoy watching it when my local station reran it on Friday late nights during the 1980s. I thought it was appropriately atmospheric, and the music was moody and really set the tone. But I think it suffered from the hour format because some of the stories dragged on and could get boring.
