I get kind of scared when they say it's "inspired" by the novel, because goodness knows so many things claiming to be faithful fall quite wide of the mark. But I'm very interested in seeing this just for the casting of Count Dracula! Yum!

I don't want to get my hopes up for anything faithful to the book. I would say the closest adaptation is the BBC version with Louis Jourdan, even though I didn't find him quite the right choice for the role. That version followed the story line of the book very closely as well as depicting Dracula's evilness. British adaptations of classic works in the past 15 years (or more) that I've seen just don't want to stick with the original; they want to "improve" and reinterpret for today's audiences, who apparently can't relate to anything not from their own generation.

There seems to be a rule that every 10 to 20 years, the BBC has to film DRACULA again. This version seems to owe a lot to F. Coppola, Ken Russell, and Guillermo del Toro.

I doubt if anything will ever top the classic Louis Jordan version.  Even my mom, who hated that "spooky stuff," was riveted to the TV screen when it was aired on PBS.

New BBC Dracula trailer:

This is really not my idea of fun, but I know some of you will love it. The actor cast as the Count is best known in the UK for a performance in a comedy series.

It definitely looks like it is taking quite a few liberties with the original text. On the other hand, I find it to be quite intriguing.

Thanks G. One snippet reminded me very much of C Lee.

What is it with all the nuns?  What do they do?  Pull out all the rulers and rap him on the knuckles?  Make him stay up after sunrise and clean the blackboards and erasers?

What is it with all the nuns?

Nun scenes are kinky in all vampire movies.  [santa_wink]  Women married to God et al. becoming Dracula victims!  [santa_evil]
