Title: "Extra-Special, First Time Ever Surprise"

I am very excited about the announcement that was made in another thread on this board.  I'm sure everyone will be wondering what the surprise will be, and I look forward to reading everyone's speculative comments.

Personally, I suspect that the surprise will be an appearance by David Henesy, Dan Curtis, or Alexandra Moltke Isles.

There's no way on heaven or on earth that DC will ever come to one of these events. If there ever was, the Friday debacle with KLS certainly ruined that for good.

My bet is on Henesy. It makes sense. His mother was probably at this year's show to test the waters and depending on her experiences, will probably convince him to come.

Don't think it'll be Moltke. She's too worried about people asking her inappropriate questions about her relationship with Claus Von Bulow...and honestly, who could blame her.

I'm guessing that the special, first-time-ever surprise is that everything will run on schedule.

We didn't discuss this possibility but not coming for the above reason makes complete sense. Still, it would be amazing if she were to make it somehow.  Maybe she could forego the Q&A sessions.

Whoever or whatever it is I'm looking forward to it and hope it pans out.  Guess we'll see!

What announcement was that, Claude?  I am intrigued.  Does this means there will be a special never-before-seen guest at the 2003 Fest in New York?  I do hope to make it next year!

What a pity that DC never comes to these Fests.  I still remember Gene Roddenberry's and Majel Barrett's appearance at a Trek Con many, many moons ago.  Still, it would be great to see Mr. Henesy or Ms. Moltke, too.

If they announced the dates for next year, does that mean they already have the venue booked?  I'd assume so.

So where is the 2003 Fest going to be held?  There are hotels in New York City where you ALREADY can't get a room for next August!!.....how early do they usually announce?

Rainey, who might consider it since it's "only a train ride away" as Midnite reminded me!

Geez, is that what everybody here really wants to know about?  Am I the only one who couldn't care less about that aspect of her life?  ;)

My stab at it is that the special surpise will be Collinwood -- i.e, the con will take place there!  (Yeah, right...dream on...  ::)

Could the surprise not actually be a person?! It does not come out and say there will be a new guest, so it could be almost anything! And I can't believe we have to wait a whole year to find out...!

Now THAT would be a first time ever surprise! But I think there's a better chance of seeing Alexandra at a Fest than us ever seeing that happen. LOL!

I must admit that when I first read that, I thought it was merely a gimmick to attract more people to the Fest.  I suspect it will turn out to be something rather mundane, like never-before-seen video footage from outside the studio or one of the star's guest appearances on a game show, but don't let my cynicism bring you down.  

As for potential "surprise" guests, might either of the Halls be interested in attending?  Have they done so in the past?

Or, maybe Darren really has found the lost House of DS footage and simply hasn't told us because it's supposed to be an "extra-special" surprise.  ;)

Sorry to say professor, it isn't HODS footage- though I wish it was. I wasn't even planning on going next year, at this point.

That's one of those things I would definitely make a big news item about. Having done that progress report thing on this site, I would probably make the announcement on my website, my email newsletter, this and Stuart's site all at the same time- and that would most likely be within 24 hours after I examined and definitively confirmed the existence of the footage.

Both may have. I know Matt Hall was at the 1989 NY Fest because I saw him. Sam Hall was supposed to attend the 1991 LA Fest, however, I think he was a no-show. But I'm sure someone who was there that year will be able to confirm or refute that.

The 1991 L.A. Festival was my first, and my best recollections are Sam Hall was not there.  As far as the extra special surprise goes......I asked Jim about that after the banquet and his reply was that whatever it was going to be, it would be announced well before the Festival.

I was gonna guess Alexandra Motlke. ..after the 35th anniversary event which she attended, seemed to go so well.  But after the Friday and Sunday night debacles. . i truly wonder if the big Surprise will be "NO MORE DS FEsts..???"
