Question:

Does anyone else hear the background noise on episode 1172? If you listen closely, in the teaser, you can hear Trask's line well before he says them. I wonder why this is? Is it an error in the DVD, or is it because there was a tape of the audio playing in the background?

Can someone else verify this?

I remember this happening, but don't remember which episode.    I couldn't imagine what could account for it.   On records, sometimes you can hear faintly what's coming a few seconds later.    Some electronic glitch...?

It was so weird. It sounded like in was backstage, about 10 feet from the microphone that was on the actual set where the actors were. I mean, I've heard coughing, sneezing, seen smoke frmo cigarettes go across the screen, but that sounded like it was actually there on set. I don't know. Maybe the valleys that the shows are embedded on for the DVDs are just a touch too close together, so that the laser reads one and part of another? I'm no big tech person, but I guess it could happen.

Yes, Brandon, I noticed it as well. You hear the lines being spoken as if from far off, then the lines are repeated as they should be, right where we can hear them. I'm not sure what this is, strange.

I've noticed this in the past on the DS MPI videos (VHS and DVD), and on other tapes, including old reel-to-reel audio tapes.  I first noticed it about 20+ years ago when listening to audio cassettes of DS that I recorded back in 1970 and 1971.  Called "print-through," this is common with analog audio (even when said audio is part of a video-tape.)  Do a Google search for "print-through" to learn more.

Occasionally I've noticed something like this in other episodes where you'll hear someone scream or yell faintly seconds before they actually open their mouth and do it.

We're probably quite lucky that it doesn't happen more often than it does.

I used to wonder about this too....I think maybe one of the crew or somebody in the background was listening to the video of the last few minutes of the previous episode....why I have no idea.

MB is right that we're lucky that this doesn't happen more often lol. I also noticed it in a big way on the next disc of the same set as the set that episode 1172 is on. I think this second episode I noticed it was like 1180--something. The scene has Daphne and Joanna in it.

It's not a big deal. It kind of bothers me if the volume on the TV is up loud enough so that I can hear it clearly from the couch--at least 3 or 4 feet away, or more, from the television set. Then it's like:

(in the background)
Daph: Joanna she's gonna kill me!
Joanna: No, she's not.

(real dialogue being spoken)
Daph: I don't know why she hates me.
Joanna: She doesn't.
Daph: Joanna she's gonna kill me!
Joanna: No, she's not.

The first two lines of the first set get spoken under the first two lines of the second set. So it's difficult to distinguish who's saying what sometimes, especially when it gets LOUD. lol.

Kinda reminds me of the Godzilla movies from the 60s.
