Yesterday I meant to post the daily rankings for weekend - but I suppose better a few days late than never.
So with that in mind: on Friday DS seems to have ranked 18th, and on both Saturday and Sunday it seems to have ranked 19th.
July 27th Box OfficeJuly 28th Box OfficeJuly 29th Box OfficeAnd as David already reported, DS came in 21st for the overall weekend.
July 27-29, 2012 Box OfficeAnd those rankings seem quite high for a film in its 12th weekend, so, of course, that prompted me to check/compare DS to this year's other films in their 12th weekend:
Film | Gross | Per Screen |
===================== | ======== | ======== |
The Hunger Games | $1,072,213 | $1,428 |
Marvel's The Avengers | $620,411 | $1,253 |
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island | $512,212 | $1,277 |
Dr. Seuss' The Lorax | $458,595 | $1,210 |
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel | $416,791 | $1,447 |
21 Jump Street | $376,391 | $1,141 |
DARK SHADOWS | $287,229 | $1,294 |
John Carter | $247,940 | $1,417 |
To the Arctic (IMAX) | $244,152 | $4,695 |
Mirror Mirror | $235,632 | $848 |
DS is still holding up quite well from last weekend, particularly when one considers that films like
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and
To The Arctic started out or have remained in limited release. And even though DS' per screen slipped considerably from last weekend's figure, with the exception of last weekend we'd have to go all the way back to its 3rd weekend (when it was playing in 3,404 theaters with a per screen of $2,205) to find a per screen higher than this past weekend's figure.
And finally, comparing DS to what
Wrath of the Titans did in its 12th weekend, well, that comparison is still pretty dismal because that film grossed $77,466 - $209,773 less than what DS grossed.
