Never heard about this before (probably missed it.)   Pranks between the actors was one thing, but a "replacement worker" would have been just as easily replaced, if nabbed by someone with the power to do something about it (unless it was the boss's nephew. [hall2_wink] )  
 (And imagine the dry-cleaning bills this would have caused!)
Somebody needs to ask about those casket bio-hazard pranks of the scabs at the next festival.

I've also never heard that story before. Though the part of it that most rings true is that when "there was serious unrest among the show’s crew, management called in mid-level executive types to replace the disgruntled workers and keep pumping out new episodes" because we know that definitely happened.
