Coping Skills in Collinsport
« on: March 01, 2005, 06:33:10 PM »
Good Day, Cousins!
I was reading my university's daily paper when I came across an article about the pressures that people have in this uncertain world. I also thought about how people coped with all the ups and downs of life. Does any cousin know the many ways that the characters of DS coped with life and/or bad scenarios?

Have a Great Day and Don't Let Anything Get You Down :)

[lghy]  You guys are too much.

Hmm, I like it, dvlvan.  The characters did seem to cope with stress differently.  If I may give it a shot...

Liz -- avoidance  (Mentally, physically, you name it)
Roger -- denial  ('Nuff said?)
David-- acting out  (Can you say bleeder valve?)
Barnabas -- rationalization  (He always had an excuse for behaving badly.)
Professor Stokes -- intellectualization  (Focusing on facts and logic instead of his feelings)
Angelique-- attacking  (When she feels threatened by someone, even if it's just in her imagination, she just puts a spell on them.)
Julia -- idealization  (Playing up the good points of her relationship with Barnabas)

Sheriff Paterson: massaging his bald head
Jason: betting on horses at the race track, being nosy, gambling at the casino
Quentin: turning into a werewolf and walking along the seashore
Sarah: singing "London Bridges"...
Levianthans: playing Spades or Poker at the Blue Whale
Maggie: Turning into a little girl, playing with dolls
Jeff/Peter: touching his hair 100 times
Burke: Lots of alcohol and dancing to music
Mrs. Johnson: tending to her secret garden of tulips
For everyone else, it was comfort food and Josette's Music Box, playing all night long
