Title: Blast from the Past
Post by: Patti Feinberg on February 16, 2003, 04:46:07 AM
Only on weekends, our local NJ radio station plays 'oldies' (these were the songs that I grew up hearing on WABC as a youth).

Driving down the road just a while ago....what a blast.

She's just a Devil Woman
With Evil on Her Mind
Beware the Devil Woman
She's Gonna Get You Everytime

WHOOSH!!!! WHAT A COOL TUNE!!!

Well I too like the oldies station.  Around here it's called WJMK 104.3 FM. They play alot of mid/late 60's through out the 70's.  Rarely have I heard anything from the 80's on it. One of the old timer DJ's on the station (he's on in the PM) is Dick Biondi.  He's been around since I was a young teen. Today I heard Gypsy Woman (can't remember who sang it. After all I'm getting to be an old timer myself!).  I immediately thought of Magda.

Our 'oldies station' here in Jerktown just went thru a pointless change of station [still owned by the same faceless giant] and still play the same old few songs.  Their slogan used to be 'Good Times, Great Oldies' and even the DJs joked about how it should be 'Good Times, EIGHT Oldies'  As big a Monkee fan as I am, I never need to hear Daydream Believer again!  My CD player in the car and home is my station! Listening to the De-spectorized Long and Winding Road....

But to swerve back to topic - slam on the brakes - how 'bout - 'Season of the Witch' [Donovan]

Cheers,
Ringo, who will have his own version of that slash and burn job they did of my interview out soon!

I went to a wedding once with a jerk who asked the DJ to play ELO's "Evil Woman" just for me.

I went home with someone else that night.......and Jerk drove his car into a ditch.  ;)

Bryan Hyland released Gypsy Woman in '73, Miss_Winthrop. The Impressions (Curtis Mayfield) did the original in '61. I'm only familiar with Hyland's version - love it.

I gave up on my oldies station years ago. Listen mostly to NPR.

dom (who's had the same Supremes tape in the car player for a few years now)

One of my radio buttons is preset to 104.3(or as it used to be known "magic 104") as well Miss_Winthrop.  ;D

 >:(They recently replaced our local "oldies" station with a soft rock format. Can't say I dislike it but I sure do miss golden oldies. I remember Devil Woman---but who remembers "Witch Doctor"? Heard that one last week as I was driving in another state. OO-EE-OO--AH--AH!

Witch Doctor---please-- my oldest daughter is a big chipmunk fan.  Now nineteen she still will sit down and watch Alvin and was horrrified that I got rid of the Chipmunk movie.  I think she dug it out of the trash.

Dom, thought of you yestereday I had the Supremes Cd. in my hand to buy at Best Buy but put it back.  My  mad money was spent of course on my kid.  She needed a really cool shirt to wear for St. Patricks Day.  She is the most Irish of my four. Also the pooch went to the groomers,  Will pick it up next time I am down that way.
