Title: Floating heart - painful hindrance
Post by: Connie on February 14, 2005, 06:14:55 PM
Talk about being unlucky in love.....  :'(

Thinking something good might happen I clicked on the floating heart.  And what did I get??
"This image is copyrighted.  We ask that you not copy it."  (or something to that effect)

Figures.

Left click it, Connie.  Right clicking an image brings up that error.

But I get that same message whether I right click, or left click.  "I don't understand."  :P

I *believe* its cause whatever is near the heart image.

(I was going to reply to Connie...I occassionally get the Copyright message when I hit alot of things on the board; think it's just aiming...if I were you, I'd just quickly try again.)

I keep getting cures from the floating heart but since I have a fever and a sore throat I guess that would be appropriate. [sad3]

 [scratch]

The message comes up because copying is disabled, and my mouse is set up to copy by right clicking.  Maybe yours are switched?  Most left handed users, for example, perform shortcuts with a left-click.  Mouse settings are in your Control Panel.

I hope you feel better soon, onyx treasure!

Ah.  Same here when I use IE.  With or without SP2.   [Blow_Up_IE]

I'm sure we all feel your pain.  :(  But perhaps you'll be happy to know that your fellow cousins have been very lucky in love today because so far the Valentine curses are outweighing the cures by over 4 to 1!  [hello]

But at least you were able to catch it for real those three other times (at 01:48:30am/ET, 11:46:49, and 11:55:23).

How weird. But then, nothing that IE does should surprise me.  ::)

Can I just say that this is totally addictive? I keep getting cured, but still, I can't stop myself.

Yeah - my aim isn't what it used to be.

I'm sure we all feel your pain.

Yeah.  Sure ya do.  [sure]

Well, at least my powers of prediction are still intact:

Eastern time, mind you.  (You forgot to list the time I took a shower and flushed my IV line).  [wink2]

Anyway, if anyone is willing to be my valentine for the remainder of the evening - or even a day or two, IM me.
I'm lonely.

The SMF developers haven't quite figured out how to provide us with that sort of info yet - but give them (or perhaps me) time.  [b003]

Yes, it is addicting...I'm getting more cures then curses.  Curses!!  Hey there it is again...the floating curse/cure heart. Do I dare/

Ah....

Just when I was wondering how people were able to be addicted to the thing (I don't SEE it enough to become addicted), I just caught it 3 (count 'em....three) times.  I got cured once, and cursed twice.  So.....well, where does that leave me in essence??  It's confusing.
What I mean is, I don't know how to VIEW this in terms of the price of tea or something.  It's supposed to be backwards, right?  Cures are bad and curses are good?  If I look at the numbers, the number on the left is the negative and the one on the right is the positive?  But then, I thought I read that you want more of the NEGATIVE?  So that you're "bad" or something?  (And that's good?)

See??  I'm so confused I can't even explain my confusion and figure out what to ask to straighten out the confusion!!   ???
Is anyone following this, or am I totally nuts?  That's why I'm hard-pressed to ever cure or curse someone 'cause I don't know what it means!   [hdscrt]
It's rather like taking the proverbial exam in existentialism, leaving all 10 questions blank, and getting an 'A'.

If anyone can explain all this to me you win a free trip to....I dunno....somewhere.

PS  Mr. MB.....I'll tell ya something you can work on with the floating thing:  Once someone clicks it, it shouldn't reappear when you go back to the page it was on.  Example:  I'm on the page to post a reply.  I saw it and clicked it and it went to the page that tells you if you got cursed or cured.  Then when you go back to continue what you were posting, it keeps floating around but it's USED - it's the one you clicked.  You can't keep re-clicking it 'cause you get the message that a cousin already clicked it.  Soooo....it should be made to disappear once it's been used.  Know what I mean?  The old thing shouldn't still be floating around on the page it was on when it was clicked already.
How would THAT be for a programming challenge?

God, I need a life.  THIS is what happens when I wake up in the middle of the night and post something at 4:09 Eastern Standard Time.  (If this time is incorrect, I'm sure MB will be gracious enough to correct me)   ;)

If I understand the whole cures/curses thing correctly, it used to be more desirable to be cured. Then something happened and suddenly it was the other way around. I'm too tired to go poking around for the original message (dialup is a drag).

Either that or you all really dislike me  8)

That's exactly right.

Everything is explained in the "*** A Karmic Change ***" topic, which is stickied at the top of this board.  :)

Unfortunately, going back to the previous page means going back to a page that's already been created, and it's impossible to remove code from an already created page. However, once you've gone back, if you click on your browser's "Reload" button, a brand new instance of the page will be created for you, and more than likely any floating image won't be displayed. Although, on the off chance that one is, it would be a new version of the image and would be clickable for new curses or cures (well, unless someone beats you to it).

If nothing else, my karma has seriously changed  :o

(During the Christmas/mistletoe, my 'puter was down, so, the few min/day I could log on at work, I didn't bother....was the karma changed then too?)

I showed my daughter (the one who hates DS) the 'floating' and she wanted to play, so:

KUDOS TO MB :D :D :D

and....kudos to 'TPTB' for the Caption This board....how tres tres!

Thank you so very much,

Patti

For an explanation, search the Testing board for "floating mistletoe".  Or check topics on Testing made around Christmastime, 2004.

I love the title of this thread.

Youse computer kids, you gots a language all yer own.     As for the karma, I've noticed that the people with a sense of humor get staggeringly high negative votes, so being in their company is an honorable thing.     In fact, I'm going to be upset if more people don't vote against me toot sweet.

Truthfully, the majority of the people who have high cures got them because they were unfortunate enough to catch the cures floaties when they were passing by on their monitor screens.

I think it's more desirable to be cursed now, right?  Oh well, either way, if you play with that joker on April 1, you'll be cursed more ways than one!  LOL  ;)
