OT: Possibly of Interest to Grayson Hall Fans
« on: February 13, 2007, 04:50:54 AM »
As those of us who read R. J. Jamison's fabulous Grayson Hall: A Hard Act to Follow know, Hall appeared on Broadway alongside Meryl Streep in the Kurt Weill/Bertolt Brecht musical Happy End in the 1970s.

Until now, there was no English-language recording of Happy End, but a recent production by the American Conservatory Theatre has received the soundtrack treatment. It is now available on compact disc. Granted, it's not the same as seeing/hearing Grayson Hall, but it could be interesting for her fans nonetheless.

Thanks for letting us know.

There is an audience tape from one of the Preview nights of Grayson in Happy End (sound only, unfortunately).  It does not seem to have been videotaped officially--the only thing in Billy Rose is a segment (Bilbao song, I think?) that was staged on the Tony Awards that year.

Even more unfortunately, this one tape that has surfaced was recorded when Shirley Knight was still in the role subsequently taken over by Meryl Streep.

San Francisco's Bay Area Reporter has a story on the Happy End CD in this week's issue.

Go to www.ebar.com, click Arts Articles & you'll find it.
The story will be current until next Wed, then it goes into the archives, where it'll be up 4 good.
