I have not seen the error message you referenced that Is connected to my name along with several other posters. Where is that error message located?
You wouldn't see that error, Murph, because it's listed in the server's error_log.
Is there anything I can do to not have my computer freeze up on me?
I don't really know why your computer is freezing up. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that you're running Win95 and IE 4 because I installed both on one of my older computers tonight and the forum worked fine for me.
Java scripts can sometimes cause a computer to freeze up. But if you weren't getting freeze up before now I don't really see why you'd be getting them now because nothing about the forum itself has changed in months.
The one thing that has changed is the server the forum is being run on. But I don't really see why that would make a difference.
Have you ever given any thought to upgrading your version of IE? If your problem is in some way suddenly related to the Java scripts the forum uses, a newer version of Microsoft's Java Runtime Machine *might* help eliminate it.
Or you might consider upgrading instead to Sun's Java Runtime Environment. Microsoft was recently ordered by yet another court to cease including their own Java Runtime package because it's been ruled that it infringes on Sun's version because Sun actually developed Java. However, I believe Microsoft only has to begin including Sun's version in newly packed versions of Windows NT, XP and possibly 2k. I doubt you'd get it if you simply upgrade IE.

Even though you're still running Win95, there should be a version there for you. Once you've clicked on "Download now. It's free!" the site should tell you what options you have available to download.
