[It's up to the first poster to come up with a set up, and then each following post will either complete it or fill in the blank(s). And, as always, whoever posts the set up is certainly allowed to post their own completion/fill in as a follow up.]

Complete this phrase: "Samantha was quite confused when 'Gerard' finally admitted to her that...!!"
-
He would have been more interested in her if she had been played by Kathryn Leigh Scott

Though I'm positive that if Samantha had been played by KLS, she wouldn't have been written the same way as Virginia Vestoff's Sam was. Some might even say that Sam wouldn't have been half as interesting. But we'll never know...
-
The earlier episodes, where Samantha is shown as a grieving widow and mother, seem very much like KLS material. But it seems that the writers started writing juicier material once Vestoff was established in the role.
-
([pointing-up] I definitely think the latter is the case. And VV made for the perfect bitch!! [nodassent] [thumbright])
-
I don't think that KLS had the range to pull off a bitch character like Samantha back in 1970. She probably could play it now.
-
([pointing-up] Quite possibly!!)
-
She was a pretty decent ingenue/damsel in distress. Kathryn also managed to project a quality of vulnerability which I'm not entirely certain she had in real life.
-
(I thought she got dull as a damsel in distress, and was only interesting with some intelligence, will, and sarcasm.)
-
([pointing-up] I'm afraid I agree...)
