The first issue of the Dark Shadows/Vampirella crossover is out. Big surprise: it actually came out reasonably on time. Too bad that Marc Andreyko is not on the regular book, as this is a decent story. Somewhat densely plotted but intriguing. The lead villainess is an especially nasty vampire from the middle ages, who survives into the Victoria era, where she enslaves Jack the Ripper.
The action shifts to the present where the baddies have done something nasty to the descendant of Crystal Cabot, who had been one of Barnabas' early victims. Once the news reaches Collinsport, that's enough to send Barnabas and Quentin to NYC to investigate. Vampirella is already on the job.
The first issue is intriguing enough to make me want to see where this is headed. Barnabas and Vampirella do not meet until the final panel but it looks like this could be an interesting teamup. Both are flawed heroes, with very different personalities and methods.
Writing a good comic book is a skill all its own. Andreyko has come up with a promising story with decent dialogue. The artwork is superior to anything the monthly book has had so far.
It's a decent book. I'll be interested to see where issue #2 goes.
