Title: Halloween night DS Cast Reunion - The Quarantine Theatre Company
Post by: PennyDreadful on October 29, 2020, 01:41:38 AM
I didn't see a thread about this, so I thought I'd post it here. Apologies if I missed an existing thread for it.

KLS just posted that David Henesy will also be joining in!  [hall2_shocked]

I really hope this will be archived on YouTube. I have plans for a small outdoor get-together with friends on Halloween night.

The announcement didn't have its own thread, so now it does!

Great news about David Henesy.  Both "David" and "Sarah" participating in the same event, cool.  Thanks so much, PennyDreadful.  Have a frightful Halloween!

(Checks calendar, sees it is not April 1...)

Now that's a shocker!

Indeed. Though I suspect what has a lot to do with it is that it's a virtual event. He'll be joining in from the comfort of his own home. Who knew we would ever have something to be grateful for because of the pandemic?!

I managed to watch it last night, and the video is still up for those who missed it.
I enjoyed every minute of it! It's a shame that David Henesy's connection started going, which seems to have caused him to drop out a few minutes early. It was so awesome that he participated, however, and kinda fun that he's absorbed a little hint of a Panama accent over the years. lol. I loved seeing all of these great cast members together, and hope they do more of these.

Finished watching the video tonight. There were interesting moments and sad moments and some great stories were told. Roger Davis told David Henesy that Don Briscoe was in love with David's Mom, who went on to become a successful writer of books on astrology. One can never tell if Roger is serious, about anything really.

Ansel Faraj encouraged people to write to WB home video demanding the release of the restored print of Dan Curtis's director's cut of NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS, which film historian and curatorial expert Darren Gross spent years restoring. One can only hope that this will happen. Next year, of course, will be the 50th anniversary of the film's release (and it's hard to believe that for those of us who were there!).

Ansel also stated that the CW had "passed on" the Resurrection revival of DS but somewhat cryptically added that the project was still being worked on and that we could see a reboot. One of these days.

I really enjoyed hearing David Henesy's memories. Unfortunately he did not have a good internet connection (he lives in Panama) and he kept buffering and then Richard Halpern would start asking another question when David was in mid-sentence. Halpern did suggest that another of these online reunions might happen again in the near future. I'm glad this was saved for those of us unable to tune in last Saturday evening.

It isn't called development hell for no reason.  [hall2_wink]

Actually, it sounds like the project is in a similar situation to the CW's The Lost Boys, which has been in various forms of development for three years...

Thanks for sharing, Gothick.  [hall2_smiley]

Or perhaps not:

Matt's Inside Line: Scoop on ..., Dark Shadows and More (https://tvline.com/2020/11/04/titans-season-3-spoilers-kory-starfire-blackfire-tamaran/)

"Any word on that Dark Shadows reboot announced a while back? –Andrew
Dark Shadows: Resurrections — which would have been a continuation of the 1969-71 cult classic, catching up with the supernatural Collins family in modern-day Collinsport, Maine — never made it to the pilot stage and at this point is no longer in development at The CW."

Apparently, if as Ansel Faraj said, the project is still being worked on, then it must be being worked on by Mark Perry and/or whoever was working on it at the CW but it's being worked on independently of any network...

It would have been interesting to know why the CW passed. Chances seem likely they didn't like Mark Perry's ultimate take. Though, we have barely any idea of what that take was, and more likely than not we may never know. Well, unless, as Ansel Faraj also said, whatever is still being worked on does indeed surface "one of these days" and we learn how things went down the first time around...

I’m super sad the CW isn’t going forward with Dark Shadows, That show had me riveted when I was growing up."

That was my first thought too, lol. I thoroughly enjoyed the event. The biggest thrill for me was David Henesy. I kept thinking that, wow, he doesn't "hate" Dark Shadows! He appeared very relaxed and more than happy to attend and fondly reminisce. I can't really pinpoint why but I was particularly excited about Nancy Barrett's presence as well. I'm looking forward to more of these events.

The CW was more interested in the rip off of Dark Shadows with The Vampire
Diaries. It’s a shame they don’t give Dark Shadows a chance since it’s better than
The Vampire Diaries and their spinoffs that are low rated. I was interested in this
version of Dark Shadows they were talking about because it was going to be a
continuation unlike the last two attempts The CW wanted to do which were reboots
of the series starting from scratch. Hopefully The CW changes its mind and
greenlights a season airing it with Nancy Drew. Those two would go good together.

the cw just need to slow down on vampire shows for a while cause for some
odd reason they are obsessed with a lost boys show cause they’ve remade
the pilot like two or three times already and i hate that, i dont think lost bos a
great movie like some people think, i like dark shadows more, i just do

sad news about dark shadows reboot, i was looking forward to that
dont know how to feel about supernatural news, im not so worried about sam and deans
fate as i am with cas and jack

and my words mean nothing to hollywood but really what was the catalyst for DS not even
receiving a pilot, it feels like someone just made this announcement and then the next day
changed their mind

No Dark Shadows or The Brides…what disappointing developments for the supernatural
genre on broadcast TV this year."

Those posting times are PT, which is why the above comments weren't listed when I posted that first comment yesterday...

Also, I believe tommymikaelson is wrong when it comes to The Lost Boys having made two or three pilots. The CW did make one pilot and they rejected that. But afterward they asked the people involved to develop a second pilot. However, because of the pandemic that second pilot has yet to be shot. Though he is correct in that the CW is very high on that project. Last year I remarked that I feared that fact might hamper the DS pilot - and perhaps that really is what happened.

Some of the questions I would have liked to have heard:

What are your memories of Louis Edmonds?

What are your memories of Lela Swift?

What are your memories of Irene Hamalain and Vinnie Loscalzo? Etc

"Who is your favorite character" or "Did anything paranormal ever happen in the studio???" AAARRGGHHHH

Still, it was great, for what it was.

I'm glad that Halpern's mention of Nancy Barrett's marriage to David Ford didn't seem to upset Nancy. I know that it's been decades since they divorced but that always seemed to be a topic to be avoided.

Yeah, that question about any supernatural occurrences at the DS studio was particularly “inspired,” don’t you think?

And, I wish David Selby had not asked Roger Davis about “Alias Smith and Jones.”

By the way, who is Richie Halperin anyway?

Halpern is DS fandom's answer to Skip E. Lowe.

Another comment - and one that proves we're not the only ones asking similar questions:

" James says:

Why did it take 2 years for the CW to decide to reject the Dark Shadows developmental
pilot? Were there multiple scripts submitted? Was it the concept or the script just wasn’t
good enough? It would be nice to know especially when the CW was originally interested
in the idea."

Though James is off on the timeline because the project was announced a little under 14 months ago, not 2 years. But it does seem like the silence surrounding the project has gone on for more than 2 years...
