It's been a trying few months. My wife, Peg, had surgery the day after Christmas for bone spurs in her shoulder and a reconstruction of a bad knee. Last month, my mom was diagnosed with uterine cancer and had to have a hysterectomy (which went well, and we believe there won't be any complications). This past week, we received the rather shocking news that my daughter Allison was hospitalized with a blood clot in her lung.
We got the news on Thursday afternoon, so that night, Peg and I drove up to Maryland, where Allison lives. We've spent the past couple of days there with her, and we left this afternoon and are now at my mom's in Virginia. Allison is still in the hospital, but we expect her to be released on Monday. She's doing reasonably well, but is still in a lot of pain. The doctors believe that the clot is a result of her taking birth control and being a smoker -- evidently, not a good combination.
Her prognosis is generally good; she's on blood thinner to help dissolve the clot (and will be for the next few months) as well as high-powered painkillers, as this thing is quite excruciating and interferes with her breathing. The word is that there's only a minute chance that it will move and cause further damage, but needless to say, her mom and I remain concerned about that. On the good side, she's had excellent medical care, and we're fairly confident the worst of it is over.
Some of y'all met Allison at a couple of the DS gatherings a few years back when she came to hang out with the scary folks. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, if you would. The kid means the world to me.

I'll be thinking positive thoughts for Allison, and the rest of the clan, Mark.

She is in my thoughts and prayers, Mark, as are you and all your family. Please take care of yourself as well - you need to get enough rest also.
-
Ouch, poor Allison, and how scary for you! Will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers-- for a full recovery for all, and better times ahead. Take care, Mark.

I am so sorry to hear you and your family have been going through some rough times, Mark. Hang in there!
I shall pray for Allison, and for you and the rest of the family.

Is there anything more terrifying than being told your child's life is in danger?
I'll be holding positive thoughts and best wishes for all of you......

Thank you -- thank you all. That means so much. We just got a call from Allison a short while ago; she's going to be in the hospital another couple of days, mainly because of the pain, but she's otherwise doing pretty well. I really feel she's out of the woods, but we won't stop holding our breath yet. She's getting really good care, and her friends who live near her are going out of their way to help.
Best always.

Mark, I'm so sorry to hear about all the troubles your family has suffered. I wish a complete recovery for your daughter and good health for your wife and mother. Best wishes to you, too!

Mark, so sorry to learn of so many troubles all at once for your family. Wishing all the best for everyone. I hope Allison will have a speedy recovery and that all will be well. Supposedly things happen in 3s, so I'll take that to mean that it's the end of your problems!!

Marcus - My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Having met and befriended both Peg and Allsion, it saddens me that they have had medical problems. I'm glad your Mom and Peg are doing better, and I'm sure Allison will recoup as well. Please give her my best for me, she is indeed a way cool girl :)

Hi Mark, I hope this finds you and your family well. My sister also had a blood clot several years ago due to the birth control she was taking, it was a scary incident. I hope your daughter, your wife and your Mother are feeling well soon. You're all in my thoughts and best wishes to all for a swift recovery.

glad to hear she is in good hands and will stay a little longer in the hospital

Mark...
Sorry for the lateness of this reply. I just found this thread, and thought the seriousness of this subject warranted my reading and posting attention, even at this late date.
Gosh, that's terrible that the three closest women in your life have had recent health problems! I hope they are all doing better. My thoughts are with you. [cheesyg]

Thanks again for all the good wishes. Allison is home and is feeling more or less normal again; the pain is mostly gone, but she's still supposed to take it fairly easy for a while. She's giving herself injections (I believe the drug is called Cumodin), which she'll be on for the foreseeable future. But that seems a small price to pay to get something akin to peace of mind after such an experience.
My mom is recovering pretty well. In fact, I'm at the old homestead this weekend, just to give her a hand around the place. Things look good for a full recovery.
My wife still has more health problems than the law allows. If she were a horse...
>:D
But we're hanging in there.

Glad to hear the good news, Mark!
Hoping all continues to improve for everyone.
