Met the man once, when I interned at WNBC.  I just wanted to thank him for having entertained my older brother, years before, in Vietnam.

I couldn't believe it when he stopped his entourage to ask me all about him...what branch of the service, where did he catch the show, and had he come home safely?

The cheering in the Veteran's section of heaven must be deafening.

Who's left of the classic greats?  The only two names I can think of are Olivia DeHavilland and Mickey Rooney.  Tonight I shall have a toast to bid a fond farewell to an incredible man.

By the way, wouldn't Olivia DeHavilland have also made an incredible Elizabeth Collins Stoddard?

AMEN to Mr.Hope resting in peace.

He was far more open minded & enlightened than people realized.

Around 1990 he told some "fag" jokes on a talk show. He was contacted by GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, who sent him statistics on gay bashings.

He read the materials and said that he had no idea this was going on. After publicly apologizing, he did several PSAs speaking out against anti-gay violence.

I always thought that was super cool of him. He was 88 years old at the time, but still open to listening and learning new things.

Bless his heart.

What a wonderful man he was!  How lucky we are to have had him for 100 years.  I heard a song dedicated to Bob Hope around noon.  I wish I knew the title because I found it very sweet, very moving.  Some of the verses were about the footprints outside Grauman's Chinese Theater and a lot of stars were named -- Greta Garbo, Rudolph Valentino, Bette Davis, Mickey Rooney -- not all had passed.

Thanks for the memories, Bob Hope.

Yes. Look here.

There are still quite a few but you'll have to sift through a lot of names to pull them out.

The only names I came up with off the top of my head were:

The other "La Liz" (Taylor) & Ann Miller.

Can anyone guess who the only daytime DS star (to my knowledge, anyway) to appear on a Bob Hope TV special was?

Considering the type of celebrities Hope featured on his specials, the answer should be a fairly obvious one. ;)

Based on your hint, my guess is Donna Beware-the-Lashes McKechnie, and btw, what your sig is doing is kinda creeping me out.  :o

A logical guess, and she may very well have been on one of Hope's specials, but she's not the one to whom I'm referring. :(

And that's exactly what it's designed to do. [lghy]

Umm. Then I have to guess it was one of Charlie's Angels;D

BTW . . . I am not "running on Windows XP." It just doesn't do that much for me. I'm running on caffeine and sugar.  :-*

The sig doesn't lie, but I actually have no idea what it might be saying to you because the message changes with every topic display and for every person. ;)
