It is going to be rebroadcast on Feb 19 at 11pm Est on USA network.

Thanks.  I'll add it to the forum calendar.

And I meant to thank you for the heads up, LdyAnne.  This is one L&O series I don't usually watch and refer to it as Law & Order: CRV (Civil Rights Violations).  ::)

I would think so. It would certainly be one heck of a coincidence of not. But then again.... most metro New Yorkers know the village of Tarrytown, I think. "NYPD Blue" also frequently uses local place names in their episodes....but the "Law and Order" franchise makes a particular effort to use locations all around the metro area and they are meticulous about locating them correctly in the script.

That's very interesting.  I'm an L&O addict (watching the other 2 over and over and...) and can't recall hearing Tarrytown mentioned before.

Methinks I should start a topic about demystifying the language of 'Heather, that odd chick/grasonphile from W. PA'     ;D

Heather, no one has said there's ever been a problem with your language.  The issue, as I explained to you privately, was that the cryptic references you've made to fan fiction, games, and discussions on other lists aren't always understood by forum visitors that aren't on the Julia list or whatever other list or board you were referring to, and that posts containing captures that aren't from DS should include the name of the movie since not all the visitors to this forum can recognize one of Grayson's movies from a screen grab.  Also, while NoDS, for example, is a generally understood acronym on a DS forum, SIHH, as another example, may cause some to scratch their heads if the acroynym is taken out of context on a general DS board.  That is not at all a slam against the way you write, nor does it overshadow your many other contributions to this community.

I know you were making a joke with the above quote, but quite honestly, sarcasm leveled toward us on the boards isn't appreciated when our only intention is to make the forum a pleasant experience for all DS fans who visit here, and MB's intent in posting the internet abbreviations was merely to be helpful.  I love reading about Grayson and it's wonderful that she's well represented here by her fans, but the fact is that sometimes a little extra explanation by a poster is needed-- for example, if a story is mentioned, the post might state where it can be read.  Otherwise the references are a discourtesy to cousins and guests and may be better served in a PM.  Thanks.

Did anyone catch tonight's show? I saw a bit of it but enough to see that
part of the plot was taken from the murder a few years ago in NY that involved
people who met at a DS Fest.  :o

Oh my, yes.  Well, the L&O franchise does use stories "ripped from the headlines."  I thought of you when the cops were looking at photos of the vampire convention in Orlando... under a heading "Fangs for the Memories."  ;)

I wonder if one of the writers is a fan?

These were probably just coincidences, but the fan that was the latest mark was named Dorian Cavanaugh, hee.  The club admired a vampire named Morpheus who was ambivalent about siring his love.  The stories in the book series took place through different timelines.  And one of the suspects had an alibi of being in Tarrytown on the day of the murder.   ;D

Just recently, the board had a technical difficultly {whatever that means} and dropped all the messages except for 5.

AAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!  Bravenet can't restore them?

Been there, dsbarnabasfan.  It happened to this forum twice when it was hosted on the now defunct VantageNet, and it's so sad when you realize you can never get those messages back.  :(

Sorry for temporarily hijacking your topic, Ian.   :-X

Those were some fabulous pics of Grayson!  What movie/movies are they from?

Dearest Mel, with the exception of the final capture that is from "Satan in High Heels," all the screen caps are from, to quote Heather in her Part 1 post, "the divine one's 1966 film, 'Qui Ļtes-vous, Polly Magoo?'"   :D

And the other guys, as well?

Robert Rodan on IMDb

And David (the forum member ;)) informed us in his birthday topic that Anthony George turned 84.

I don't know if anyone wished Joel Crothers a happy birthday but I will.

Hi, dsbarnabasfan, welcome back!  [wavey]

January 28 was his birth-date back in 1941. I think he was a great addition to the DS cast! I loved him as Nathan Forbes.

Wherever he is, I hope he is doing well...[I know he's gone from this physical world but not his spirit.

Thank you for that eloquent tribute.  We were admiring your collage yesterday in this message:
Happy Birthday David!

I'm a fan of your work and check in on your message board from time to time to check it out.  It's great to see you posting here again!

Current Talk '05 I / Anthony George interview in 2003 Soap Opera Weekly
« on: January 30, 2005, 12:54:27 AM »
While searching for something else at home recently, I spotted the 2003 issue of Soap Opera Weekly that has an interview and photo of then 83-year-old Anthony George.  As David mentioned in HIS birthday topic (started by dom, it's the 6,000th topic on the forums, woo hoo!), today is Tony George's 84th birthday, so what better time is there to share the article?

BTW, I'm surprised that Checkmate isn't mentioned.  (In my search I also came across his two TV Guide covers for that series.)

OLTL'S VERNON FAMILY

BEFORE THE BUCHANAN BOYS RODE INTO LLANVIEW, THERE was a little family in town called the Vernons. Dr. Will Vernon and clan moved to Llanview in 1977 when Will became a staff psychiatrist at University Hospital. Will soon had his hands full with the crazy Cath Craig-- who kidnapped baby Kevin Buchanan-- but storylines soon shifted to Will's kids. Brad Vernon is probably best remembered for raping his wife Jenny's sister, Karen (Judith Light), while Samantha Vernon was Asa Buchanan's first bride in Llanview, and also holds the dubious distinction of being OLTL's only character to give birth while drowning in a hot tub.

Anthony George
(Dr. Will Vernon, 1977 - '84)

ANTHONY GEORGE WAS ALREADY A soap veteran when he joined OLTL as the third actor to play psychiatrist Dr. Will Vernon. Unfortunately, the role was not as satisfying as his other gigs, Dark Shadows' Burke Devlin and Search for Tomorrow's Dr. Tony Vincente.
His debut storyline was supposed to be a big one: a love triangle with Jenny Wolek and his own son, Brad. "But the lady that was playing the role, a girl by the name of Kathy Glass, came up to me and said, 'I think Jameson (Parker, Brad) is too old for me, let alone you!'" he says with a laugh. "She wouldn't do it, and the storyline went down the drain.
"But [the producers] were wonderful. They kept trying to find things for me to do," recalls the actor, who is now 83 and retired. "When Judith Light replaced this girl as Karen, they talked about she and I having a romantic liaison, but nothing ever seemed to gel right. I didn't mind, because I was crazy about the people that I was working with.
"When Paul Rauch came on as a producer," he continues, "I went to him and said, "You know, I love everybody here and I'd like to continue, but there's no storyline for me. And if you can't find something for me to do, I'd rather leave.' And he said, 'Well, let's look into it and see what happens.' Then I left. That was it. I was at Samantha's bedside when she died...that was my last hurrah. But the character didn't die. He just floated away."
George now lives in the Los Angeles area with his dog, Riley, and spends his time reading and getting together with his L.A. "family," which includes former OLTL castmates Brynn Thayer and Julia Montgomery (Jenny and Samantha) and their families. "We're very close. Julia's children are the most beautiful things you've ever seen. I had an 80th birthday a couple of years ago, and they all sat around and gave these remembrances of things we had done together, and I sat there listening to it all, crying. It was so moving. I realized then that I've really had a very successful life with regard to friendships. They're wonderful people."
He's also proud of his acting career, which includes guest-starring roles on dozens of prime-time series. "I feel fortunate to have had a long, long career. I started when I was quite young, so I worked for about 50 years. I did a lot of stuff. I didn't become Paul Newman, but I didn't have his looks either!"

Happy
B'Day
David

Also celebrating their birthdays today:

Kathryn Leigh Scott, who's 60 but still looks 40
and
Anthony George, who, at 84, is DS's oldest living cast member (was that young looking, handsome dude really 46 when he played Jeremiah? Whooda thunk it!!!)

And you missed sharing a birthday with Joel Crothers by only a day.  Wouldn't that have been something?  A fan created a lovely montage in honor of the date that made me think of you.  This link: http://pub38.bravenet.com/forum/3246861296/ takes you to her forum, and scroll to the main topic (right now, it's 4 topics down) called "Happy Birthday, Joel Crothers by ~Jackie~".  Enjoy!

A.  Caption.  Is.  Not.  A.  Scene.

A caption is a brief joke-writing slam.  For the uninitiated, you're simply writing something funny about an image.  Capping is not writing an ongoing dialogue between characters.

I hear talk that the January 2005 issue of Fangoria Magazine has an article about the making of the WB pilot for Dark Shadows.  I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet.  Hopefully someone here can fill the rest of us in what it's about.
