For some reason Maggie gets to be the trendy one.

Very true.  Victoria always looks like a glorified schoolmarm, which, I guess, she is, while Maggie is always stylin'.

Of course, Carolyn always looks pretty good herself...

Julia is a terrible doctor, of course, at least as written by the DS writers, who probably had absolutely no counsel with any real doctors and made everything up as they went along....

Even back then, as a teen, I noticed how half-assed the medical aspects of this show were handled--half the time, long-term patients weren't even hooked up to an IV!--but somehow, I dismissed or accepted it all, including Julia's insane actions.  She was a woman in love, and somehow, everything else, including her questionable medical practices, was acceptable to me

Since I have nothing to do with it, I'll give a shameless plug to www.juliahoffman.com, which has a great article where Grayson Hall laughs about what a truly horrendous doctor JH is--but she's a woman in love out to protect her vampy man!

"Oh, the things I did for that man!", she says...Grayson Hall seems like she was a neat lady.

Julia99:

I absolutely love the new site and its devotion to all things Julia (and Grayson)! The postcards, the links, the LABORATORY 8)!!

The fanfic rocks, and the Grayson Hall articles (GH in 16 Magazine!!) are priceless.  Maybe more caps, please?

Great site!

Keep it up!

Did anyone else dig Maggie's groovy threads on Friday?

I thought they were the grooviest threads I've seen on DS in a while!

Cassandra told Victoria that Barnabas was looking for her. Victoria replied by saying "You're a liar! And evil and selfish and wicked!". Cassandra replied "How Dare You say that to me?" Or something along to those terms. Vicki ran off after this.

Actually, when Cassandra asks how dare she say those things, it seems like Victoria told her she'd be hearing more of that sort of thing, then ran off...

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Julia would've been the perfect doctor for Elvis Presley.

But give her a break!  She's a woman in love and she saw a perfect opportunity to skip outta Spookyville with the vamp that owns her malpracticing little heart.

(Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is perceived as a teeny-bopper show...but the heart of the show is in much the same place as DS, and the wit and intelligence of the writing move it beyond typical teen fare...

Hear, hear!

And the season that just ended was one of the darkest, most controversial and--IMO--one of the best of the series.

And throw in a plug for Angel while you're at it, which might actually have more a DS vibe than BtVS, since it is considered to be the more "adult" show...

Buffy's old beau just had one of his darkest years to date--and a son!  As with Barnabas, it is cool how we get to see Angel through the many years of his life and his evolution.

Like our beloved Barnabas, Angel is a vampire with a soul...

I "embrace" Buffy, but it's no DS.  IMO, Buffy was influenced more by Kolchak the Night Stalker...

Even more than BtVS, Kolchak The Night Stalker is the indirect inspiration for The X-Files--though Mulder & Scully certainly give off a Barnabas/Julia vibe lots of times...

I especially liked how the last episode today ended...

I concur.  A good Friday cliffhanger.

And I'm glad Victoria wasn't subjected to that National Geographic footage of bats during the dream curse...

Congratulations, ProfStokes!

May you always find success...and even more important: happiness!!  :)

(I)f you are looking for perfection, this is not the show for you...lol

But part of the fun of DS--IMO--is rooting for the actors to get through scenes when things go very wrong; like when TLATKLS lost her earring in a scene with Joel Crothers where they were ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT the earrings! Loved how she subtly covered her ear...like we all didn't see it fall off!

We all have our favorite actors/characters (see the "Breaking & Entering" thread ;)), but when it all goes south, I like to cheer for everyone to make it through...

I think it says a lot for the man as an actor to be able to make two different characters so believable.

I'm not sure that it was ALL Joel Crothers, but as I've watched DS again for the first time since the original run, it occurs to me that the only soaps I ever watched were the three in which Joel Crothers appeared.

When I was 10, I thought he was super cool...

Still do, I guess.  :D

I believe Joe Haskell is a very handsome mortal, I wish he were my boyfriend, but I doubt he would relocate to the ether.

He's already there, Sarah... :'(

Blair's nasal voice sometimes reminds of Jon Lovitz.  I keep expecting him to say: "I'm Angeliq--Cassandra's brother.  Yeah, yeah...that's the ticket!"

Collinsport, Maine is about as lawless a place as you're likely to find.

Well, folks in Collinsport are too busy ducking dream curses and having seances and walking in the woods at night.

And the women are too busy hoping Barnabas doesn't fall in love with them or bite them or use them as a life force in one of his and Julia's wacky experiments.

Who has time to worry about actual law breakers?!

(honking the horn)
C'mon, Barnabas!  I still have sedatives to pass out at Collinwood!
