I like when they repeat lines after one another!

Oh me too.

Is Diana still doing the Fests?  I wouldn't mind to meet her either!!

She is, Taeylor, attending in '03, '04, '06 and '07 on the East Coast and in '05 in Hollywood.  She isn't on the guest list for '09, though in the past she has been added closer to the event.  Diana can be a bit of a diva, and entertaining if you haven't heard her stories before.

The ceremony by Quentin and Angelique is very exciting.  Weird, but exciting.

In the middle of it, Quentin said about Laura, "Ra needs her here still."  But honestly, I can't fathom why Ra keeps giving her aid and granting her more time.

Is anyone else getting distracted by the fact that Selby keeps going up on tiptoe then back down

LOL

Interesting how they’re differing from real Egyptian legend here, making Set the god of Death ...  LOL they DID get the “Killer of Osiris” part right, though.   Curious that they’re looking at calling on Set as calling out the big guns, when Ra and Set were really lateral, though rivals.

Sam Hall definitely took some liberties with the mythology.  When Quentin appealed to Set to show his green face to Laura, he seemed to be confusing Set with Osiris.

And of course NO ONE thinks to lock a flipping door. AGAIN.   [90d1] So, Jamison is able to barge in

If he's really like David, a locked door wouldn't stop him from getting inside.  [ghost_wink]

Oh this scene with Laura and Judith annoys me.  It’s Judith’s house and she lets Laura boss her around?   [8311]

I wonder if Laura was always pushy and impatient and demanding when she wasn't living on borrowed time.  I don't know how Judith sees her, but I find her to be intimidating as hell.

Yet her predictability may be the thing that makes her vulnerable.  Her enemies know precisely when she's going to make her next move (now).  They know that Jamison is safe while Laura focuses on them.  They know whom she's going to come after, and in what order-- Angelique first, because she's the most dangerous, then Barnabas, because he has powers of his own, and then Quentin (handily) for his part in the ceremony.  If the woman wasn't so scary, she'd be easy to beat at poker.

“You’re very gifted you know, besides being beautiful, dangerous.  All the things  I like."

I am so glad Beth wasn't around to witness that.  But how amusing that Q was hitting on Angelique as she leaned against Barnabas' portrait.  [ghost_cheesy]

For once, they didn't give away the surprise by having Lara Parker do the voiceover.  Oh, what a fabulous first meeting between Ang and Laura!!!

And it's GAME ON.  We now have Team Phoenix headed by Laura that includes Dirk, its weakest link, and Ra, who by now must surely be on his last nerve.  After its most valuable possession, an urn, was placed on the injured reserve list, a scarab was brought in as a replacement but was unfortunately fumbled away.

On the opposing side, Team Vampire is captained by Barnabas (but only at night) and includes a witch at the height of her powers, a "Madame Gypsy Witch Hag," and a dabbler, plus minor players Charity and Sandor who were drafted against their will.  Team V's most valuable possessions are a pocket edition of The Book of the Dead, a wax poppet, and the newly captured scarab.

But Laura scored big by getting the last word in this confrontation:  [while strolling past Angelique after placing a wall of flames in her path to prevent her from leaving first] "I must warn you that I am not without powers.  And it's good to see that you are not without fear."

One more quote--
Laura:  "The Collins house has always held unhappy women."
Word.

Ok, this is a new one, silver bullets for vampires.

Though not new for DS.  It has come up a handful of times already, with the first probably being the scene between Joshua and Barnabas near the end of 1795.  It's not new to 1897 because we did learn that Barnabas was vulnerable to silver during one of Quentin's rituals that included Jamison.

And why FIVE silver bullets?  Most revolvers have 6 chambers, not to mention whether it takes multiple bullets to do the deed.

Early Colt revolvers chambered 5 bullets.  (Kudos to Violet Welles for that and for the marvelous dialogue in this ep.)

[spoiler]I forgot about LSC - I was remembering her as LMC. [signerror][/spoiler] It's been a while since I saw this storyline. Once in a while, my memory's not that great.

Not a problem.  I thought you might have read the spoiler in Reply #2.  [ghost_wink]

Well, I know there was a Laura Murdoch Stockbridge and a Laura Murdoch Radcliffe. And there were some Laura Murdoch Collinses. All of these may or may not be the same person.[ghost_wink]

I do think there's enough evidence to indicate that 3 of the Lauras you mentioned were the same Phoenix.  LMS, LMR, and the LMC who was David's mother are the 3 who died in precise 100-year intervals.

And this is getting ahead a bit, but you'll [spoiler]soon hear indisputable evidence tying the other two Lauras-- LSC (whom you didn't mention but as I said, this is getting just a little ahead of where you are in the WP) and the 1897 LMC.[/spoiler]

So are there 2 Phoenixes, with David carrying the genes of both?  Or is there just one?  But unless there are more of them that we don't know about (perish the thought!), there doesn't seem to have been more than 2 and there definitely weren't 4 or 5 that.....
were all related, but not the same Phoenix.

Oops, I meant to say this before--

Laura and Dirk have no problem getting to the basement (and as little trouble as Jenny getting in what should have been a LOCKED basement).

Surveying the grounds has been mentioned as one of Dirk's duties as caretaker, so having that set of keys to the Old House in his possession makes sense.

Hey! I just got an idea! [ideag] Maybe all the female Murdochs looked alike and were named Laura! So the Laura in 1897 was not the same Laura who "died" in 1767, 1867, and 1967... or the one Barnabas said died in 1785. They were all related, but not the same Phoenix. [ghost_wink]

Well, you'll soon see that at least two of those Lauras are more than simply related, and that not all the Lauras carried the Murdoch surname.  [ghost_wink]

(do we know anything about Joshua's siblings, if any? I don't remember.)

We know about his sister Abigail, a spinster, and his brother Jeremiah, who married twice but was childless.

A third staging of the opening scene might have been even better.  In the previous ep, the camera swept around to reveal the back of Barnabas, maybe because he missed his cue?  In the reshoot, JF merely strolls into the shot.  With better blocking, this could have been a fantastically creepy scene with the conspirators (and audience) suddenly realizing that Barnabas (wearing heavier than usual guyliner?) had been watching them all along, perhaps revealed by a flash of lightning.  <sigh>

While watching #755, I had it in my head that Barnabas created the storm, but I didn't know why I thought it.  But now I do, cuz Laura implies it in this ep when she says he can "control the elements, as he did tonight."

Ben Stokes 1756-1816  So what if the Professor told us when we first met him that Ben was 75 when he died?  And so what if Ben will be alive when the story switches to 1840?

Nora's faux side curls are gone, exposing some very cute ears.  (Thanks, ProfStokes, for providing that detail.)
