Thanks Buzz.
Pass it around.

I do hope everyone will sign.
We have the power to show Soapnet that the DS audience is out there.

OK, 8 signatures, includng my own, in the first 12 hours.
A start.

But I'd need hundreds of signers before I could show the petition to Soapnet.
Otherwise, why would they show it?
They need to see the support the show has.

Please people, sign, pass it around, post links at your websites.
We CAN make this happen.
We CAN see our show back on the air.

I'll sign it tho.....

I'm not very optimistic. Past petitions to get various shows (some more current and some not) back on the air fell flat on their face. So, surprise me.

With DS available on MPI VHS and DVD, why?  Why should Soapnet bother to pay royalties and air it?  Is it good business to spend the money to air a show so widely available to it's core fans---and the rest of the world?  And would the airing add new fans?

Just my opinion...noting that most all of the soaps on Soapnet are NOT available on home video.  Beside, I prefer watching on my own time on my own MPI DVDs.

Sorry to spoil the party...that's my opinion.

Brian:
I have the DVDs too, & I love having them.
But not everyone can afford the DVDs.
Soapnet might be an option for them.

Also, having the show aired creates new fans, which is needed to keep the franchise going long term.

I've passed on the link to the DS lists I'm on.  I see the votes are up to 31 signatures.  I don't get Soapnet on my cable but if others do, at least they'd benefit.  I do have all the DVDs now so if they air the series, I can still follow along.

I have just signed the petition I am proud to say!

Great point about not everybody having the DVD's....Soapnet would be a great opportunity to revive the orignal show and accomidate those people.

Brian, don't you want the show to gain new fans?  Getting it on SoapNet will not only give DS a new infusion of fans, but keep it alive in the media and fandom in general!  So go sign the petition now- if not yourself, but for all DS fans everywhere!

The problem with getting DS back on the air is not the show itself, or how old it is, or what the content is.  The only thing that matters, with regard to getting a show on the air is: who makes up the likely audience of this show, and are they the people to whom the advertisers want to sell something.

Advertisers don't care about the content of the show.....only the buying habits of the audience.

If Dark Shadows fans could be shown to be the perfect demographic for .....SOMETHING.....then we have a shot.

Frankly, considering how varied a group we are, I'd be hard pressed to imagine what that.....SOMETHING could be.. ::)

Despite our varied tastes and lifestyles, I think it's safe to assume that we'd be very interested in anything DS related....so maybe MPI could buy up all the ad space?

All right....so they won't splurge for it all because they already have us within their grasp.....maybe we could watch commercials for LP and KLS' new novels?

A lot of us are interested in all things DS, plus we have a lot of classic horror/sci-fi fans here.

There's plenty of merchandise out there from all these
varied fandom to fill the ad space.

On a somewhat related note, NBC Universal Cable (who owns SCI FI) announced yesterday that they plan to launch a new horror and thriller cable network called Chiller. It debuts on March 1. DirecTV has already signed on to carry it. Daily programming will include Friday the 13th, Twin Peaks, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Tales from the Crypt. Feature films will include The Shining, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and The Birds, Sphere, The Stephen King mini-series The Langoliers, Blade Runner, Believe, The Crew and The Unholy.

The press release is here:

The network's web site will be here:

Chiller sounds WONDERFUL!!!!!!

But like NBC/Uni's crime channel, Slueth TV, I suspect they will ONLY show things from the Universal/NBC library.
Which could include the supernatural soap Passions......

But Chiller might also make a great home for DS.
